Compressus Showcases Comprehensive Suite of Enterprise Systems Integration Solutions at RSNA

MEDxConnect(TM) System Provides Seamless Connectivity and Affordable
          Interoperability Between Multi-Vendor Enterprise Systems

CHICAGO, Nov. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Compressus, Inc. today announced that
it will showcase its comprehensive suite of Enterprise Systems Integration
software solutions here at the 92nd Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting
of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), November 26-December
1. The MEDxConnect(TM) System technology provides seamless connectivity and
interoperability between diagnostic acquisition devices, PACS, HIS, RIS,
and their related information systems of integrated digital medical imaging
and data management. Key components of the MEDxConnect Enterprise
Integration solution include: the Medical Message Mediator (M3), the
Virtual Worklist and the Systems Management Dashboard (SMD).
"The lack of interoperability between existing information and imaging
systems is one of the most critical problems facing the diagnostic and
management effectiveness of the healthcare profession today. Compressus'
MEDxConnect is an innovative technology that supports healthcare's need for
a fast, effective, accurate, and affordable solution providing seamless
connectivity and interoperability. In addition, this level of
interoperability is essential for eventual implementation of a standards
based Electronic Health Record," said Janine Broda, vice president and
general manager for Compressus' Medical Solutions Division.
The centerpiece of the MEDxConnect technology is the Medical Message
Mediator (M3). Utilizing HL7, DICOM, and other standards, the M3 uses the
communications protocols and semantics of each participating information
system to control the flow of images, reports, messages, standard patient
demographics and other important data for diagnosis and treatment planning
of a patient between otherwise independent and disparate systems. The M3
uses DICOM, HL7, XML, SSL, TLS and other standards to ensure HIPAA
compliance in both procedural and security areas.
The greatest source of enterprise interoperability problems is
associated with the fact that different systems use proprietary data
structures to store and move information. The M3 mediates interoperability
between the different applications, creating a virtual integrated
information system that adheres to the IHE technical framework. This
information can then be reliably used to automate and manage enterprise
workflow based on customers' programmed requirements. This eliminates
manual data entry operations and speeds up the healthcare delivery process.
The MEDxConnect Virtual Worklist is a software product that runs on the
MEDxConnect M3 server and leverages the M3 integration capabilities. With a
growing shortage of radiologists, particularly sub-specialists, centralized
worklists with automated routing and single login access are crucial to
ensure timely review and interpretation. The Virtual Worklist and M3 enable
users to build a flexible system to efficiently manage diagnostic and
reporting workflow throughout the Enterprise. This is accomplished through
the ability to retrieve and store diagnostic images on DICOM archives, the
ability to manage their activities via a patient work list generated from
multiple PACS or network systems, as well as the ability to route images to
participating physicians based upon any combination of modality, body part,
and/or referring physician through rules created by the customer.
By creating one integrated Enterprise diagnostic network, the Virtual
Worklist and M3 maximize productivity and reduce spikes in workload. The
Virtual Worklist permits optimal utilization of diagnostic physicians
Enterprise wide, by giving physicians the ability to perform diagnostic
readings from any point on the network for any patient in the Enterprise.
The Virtual Worklist permits time based routing of data and worklists for
after hour diagnosis and permits the implementation of load balancing of
workflow by customer programmed rules. The result is single Enterprise-wide
diagnostic workflow solution that increases efficiency, saves time and
money and provides the customer the freedom to choose the HIS/RIS/PACS
systems on feature preference rather than to avoid integration issues.
In order to maintain the highest level of efficiency, a Healthcare
Enterprise must be able to monitor the workflow. However, one of the
problems is to find inefficiencies or bottlenecks in workflow in order to
correct them. The Compressus MEDxConnect Systems Management Dashboard (SMD)
provides the needed overview in monitoring Enterprise activities and
assists in identifying inefficiencies or bottlenecks in workflow. Using a
variety of numeric and graphic tools to display workflow operations, the
SMD is a powerful tool. It will enable users to find and correct
inefficiencies and be proactive in making the Healthcare Enterprise more
efficient
Compressus' MEDxConnect System acts as a communications hub, enabling
various PACS, HIS, RIS and other data information systems to connect and
communicate across the Enterprise. The integrated imaging and data
management solution from Compressus is designed to support a facility's
current and expanded workload and provide an infrastructure for sustained
growth. State-of-the-art technologies work together to build the
functionality required for remote connectivity and enables users to access
diagnostic images and reports in the existing data stores at each facility,
increasing the level of medical care while reducing the associated costs.
This solution emphasizes the electronic collection and distribution of
digital imaging data.
"As Healthcare Enterprises grow in size and complexity, Enterprise
Systems Integration will become increasingly vital to the successful
management of patient care and the bottom line. We strongly believe
MEDxConnect will be at the forefront based on its ability to adhere to
accepted medical and communications standards. It efficiently leverage
existing communications infrastructure to connect existing information
systems and applications through standardized and proprietary formats.
Finally, through auditable enabling of intelligent workflow between these
systems, MEDxConnect helps create an efficient interoperable Enterprise
healthcare information system," added Broda.
