CompuMed Signs Licensing Agreement With FUJIFILM Medical Systems USA

OsteoGram(R) Enhanced Computed Radiography and Mammography Systems to be
                               Featured at RSNA

LOS ANGELES and STAMFORD, Conn., RSNA Annual Meeting, Nov. 28
/PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CompuMed, Inc. (OTC: Bulletin Board: CMPD) -- a
developer of Computer Aided Diagnostic (CAD) solutions for the healthcare
industry -- and FUJIFILM Medical Systems USA, Inc. (Div. Fuji Photo Film Co.,
Ltd.) (Nasdaq: FUJIY) today announced the signing of a licensing agreement
that enables FUJIFILM Medical Systems USA, Inc. (Fuji) to integrate CompuMed's
proprietary OsteoGram(R) osteoporosis screening software with its
market-leading computed radiography (CR) systems, as well as future CR
mammography systems*.
Under the terms of the five year agreement, Fuji will place an initial
order for 10 OsteoGram systems and then license and distribute the OsteoGram
on existing and new CR systems, as well as future mammography platforms in the
United States. Fuji has the largest installed base of CR systems in the U.S.,
and currently markets its products through a direct sales organization and a
nationwide network of imaging distributors.
"We are proud to partner with Fuji -- the global leader in digital x-ray
systems," said Jerry McLaughlin, chief executive officer of CompuMed. "Our
OsteoGram application complements Fuji's marketing strategies, and will add
significant value to their industry-leading offerings in the orthopedic, CR
mammography and general radiology arenas."
The OsteoGram is a medical image processing system that enables healthcare
providers to screen, diagnose and monitor osteoporosis using digital images
from filmless x-ray equipment or conventional, film-based hand x-rays. The
system analyzes such images via proprietary software that produces a bone
mineral density (BMD) report. The OsteoGram is far less costly and cumbersome
than conventional hardware-based BMD systems, which require dedicated and
expensive equipment, computers, office space and staff. According to the
International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF), osteoporosis affects more than
200 million people worldwide, 80 percent of whom are women. The disease poses
a major public health threat for 44 million Americans, and costs the U.S.
healthcare system in excess of $17 billion annually.
"Integrating CompuMed's unique OsteoGram system with Fuji's computed
radiology equipment will enable women to get screened for osteoporosis at the
same time they undergo a mammogram or other common medical imaging exam," said
John Strauss, Fuji's director of marketing for imaging systems. "We believe
integrating these systems will serve an important public health need by making
osteoporosis screening more convenient for patients, while also helping
healthcare providers add services and improve workflow."
OsteoGram-enhanced Fuji CR systems will be showcased at the 91st
Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting of the Radiological Society of North
America (RSNA) in Chicago (November 27-December 2). They will be on display
with Fuji's family of computed radiography systems at the Fuji exhibit
(McCormick Place North Building -- Hall B Booth: 7157).
