Magazine's 2004 Technologies of the Year Awards Honor the Waste Remediation
System's Potential to Change How Materials are Manufactured and Used
WILTON, Conn., Nov. 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Startech Environmental
Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: STHK), announced today that its Plasma
Converter System has been designated a Notable Innovation by Industry Week's
Technologies of the Year Awards. The Awards, which are featured in the
magazine's December issue, honor Startech's waste remediation system for its
potential to change how materials are manufactured and used for industry.
Startech's president, Joseph F. Longo, said, "We thank Industry Week and
we are gratified by the honor. It is also especially satisfying that the
Plasma Converter System has become widely recognized for its contributions to
the environment and to the public health and safety. This, above all, is the
Company's primary market focus.
"The Plasma Converter System is an important machine that can receive an
enormous range of diverse materials, no matter how hazardous or harmful, and
from them manufacture and produce new and valuable industrial materials that
can be used or sold. First, the System safely breaks apart the received
materials' molecules into their basic atoms, and second, it converts, or
reforms, those atoms into the molecules that make up new manufactured
industrial products.
"Materials fed into the Plasma Converter System become feed-stocks, even
if the materials were once regarded as hazardous wastes or non-hazardous
wastes. The System is the ultimate and complete recycling system. To the
Plasma Converter System, waste is a very valuable renewable resource; it's not
just garbage."
About the Startech Plasma Converter System
The Plasma Converter is an electrically-driven system that uses an ion-
charged plasma to create an arc of lightening that causes the dissociation of
the molecular bonds of waste. The System, which produces temperatures in
excess of 35,000 degrees Fahrenheit (three times hotter than the sun's
surface), transforms carbon-based, organic materials like wood, paper and
petroleum by-products into Plasma Converted Gas (PCG). This clean synthesis
gas mixture rich in hydrogen can be used to make electricity, produce fresh
water, heat and cool buildings and power vehicles. PCG can also be used as a
raw material to make a gigantic array of the chemical industry products that
we use in our lives every day.
The Plasma Converter System melts and recovers metals for the
metallurgical industry, and other non-organics such as glass, dirt and rock,
resulting in an obsidian-like, glassy silicate compound. The Obsidianite is a
valuable commodity with applications in the construction, building products
and abrasives industries.
StarCell, the Company's patented hydrogen-selective membrane filter, can
be used to separate the hydrogen from the PCG. When StarCell is joined to the
Plasma Converter System, one can literally throw banana peels in one end and
get hydrogen out the other. StarCell Hydrogen can be used in the emerging
"Green Power" distributed-power-generation markets as the lowest cost,
pristine fuel, and also to power automotive, stationary and portable fuel
cells, as well as Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles.
About Startech Environmental Corp.
Startech is a Waste Industry company engaged in the production and sale of
its innovative, proprietary plasma processing equipment known as the Plasma
Converter System. The closed-loop elemental recycling system protects the
environment and helps to improve the public health and safety by safely and
economically destroying wastes, no matter how hazardous or lethal, and turning
them into valuable products that can be used or sold. The Plasma Converter
System irreversibly destroys Municipal Solid Waste, industrial by-products,
"e-waste," medical waste, chemical industry waste and other specialty wastes
while converting them into useful commodity products that can include metals,
surplus energy and hydrogen.
In a listing of the Top 30 Waste Industry Companies, the 2004 Waste News
Market Handbook ranked Startech shares as second, with a 232 percentage gain
for the year. Startech also won The Wall Street Journal's 2004 Innovations
Award as the Best and the Brightest in the category of "Materials and Other
Base Technologies". For further information, please visit
