Siemens Medical Solutions Showcases the Results of Innovation and Partnership at RSNA

CHICAGO, Nov. 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Focusing on innovation,
successful partnerships and tangible results, Siemens Medical Solutions
demonstrates its proven ability to optimize clinical workflow and advance
patient care to new levels. Visitors to booth #1929 at the 89th Scientific
Assembly and Annual Meeting of the Radiological Society of North America
(RSNA), Nov. 30 - Dec. 5 in Chicago, will witness how Siemens is redefining
the way healthcare is delivered.
"Our purpose is to raise the bar in healthcare delivery, and we are doing
it better than anyone," said Dr. Erich R. Reinhardt, president and chief
executive officer of Siemens Medical Solutions. "Attendees at RSNA will see
the result of Siemens passion to constantly question how we do things and
challenge ourselves, as a company, to continue to increase our contribution to
the delivery of healthcare worldwide. They will learn about entirely new
technologies that will revolutionize medical imaging, information systems that
are transforming the business of healthcare, and partnerships that are
achieving concrete and sustainable results."

    Innovations Introduced at RSNA
Siemens invests 10 percent of its sales into research and development each
year to bring to market faster, superior imaging and information technologies.
In fact, the company averages more than one new invention each day. At RSNA
2003, Siemens is introducing significant new technologies and solutions that
bring the most innovative tools to healthcare delivery.
Important imaging advancements include Total imaging matrix (Tim(TM))
magnetic resonance (MR) technology, which brings together 76 seamlessly
integrated matrix coil elements and up to 32 RF channels to enable whole body
scanning for the first time ever.
Also featured at RSNA is Speed4D(TM) computed tomography (CT) technology,
featuring the revolutionary Straton(TM) X-ray tube that enables gantry
rotation times of 0.37 seconds without cooling delays; the AXIOM Artis dTA,
the world's first digital universal angiography system; and c.cam, Siemens
cardiology-dedicated gamma camera.
Siemens understands the entire clinical and economic process for clinical
diagnosis and intervention of various diseases, and leverages this knowledge
to provide innovations that improve the quality of patient care and generate
better clinical outcomes. This understanding of disease processes, coupled
with profound insight into both clinical and operational healthcare practices,
also is used to bring to market powerful information technology (IT)
advancements, such as syngo(R), Siemens unique standard software platform, and
Soarian(TM), its new generation IT solution that integrates patient-related,
physiological and imaging data to drive and direct workflow improvements.
Siemens is also continuing its leadership in the area of disease
management by undertaking several new activities in 2003 to further the field
of molecular imaging. Such activities include the introduction of bonSAI, a
fluorescence optical imaging technology that enables in vivo imaging of
molecular processes, and a broad research collaboration with the Center for
Molecular Imaging Research at Massachusetts General Hospital.

    The power of partnerships
By forming partnerships with its customers and important leaders in the
healthcare industry, rather than focusing on transaction-based relationships,
Siemens helps it customers find solutions that enable unprecedented levels of
both patient care and revenue growth.
Strategic alliances, such as those with Abbott Northwestern Hospital and
St. James Hospital and Health Centers, leverage Siemens' broad expertise to
help customers build new healthcare facilities with the most cutting-edge,
workflow improvement and time-efficient technologies. Research agreements
with centers, such as NYU Medical Center, The Cleveland Clinic, and Duke
University Medical Center, ensure clinicians utilize technology to help to
discover new applications, therapies and diagnostic tools for use in the
clinical environment.
At RSNA 2003, Siemens is introducing "Life," an integrated customer care
solution, which provides an array of customized programs and services to help
customers best capitalize on their investments. Life offers access to
education, worldwide user groups, tailored service solutions, continuous
software and hardware updates, and innovative clinical applications for
ongoing maximized performance of Siemens technologies throughout a product's
entire lifecycle.

    Demonstration of tangible results
"Innovative technologies and successful partnerships are meaningful only
if they can make an impact on clinical and financial outcomes," said
Reinhardt. "What differentiates Siemens Medical Solutions, and what is proven
time and again with each of our customers, is that our products and services
bring solid results in improving healthcare delivery."
For example, Siemens technologies showcased at RSNA can:

-- Raise radiologist productivity by nearly 50 percent, while decreasing
hardcopy by more than 90 percent.
-- Reduce work steps from as many as 27 down to four in conventional
       radiology.
-- Quadruple patient throughput in PET/CT.
-- Complete a seamless MR whole body image in as little as 12 minutes.
-- Improve ultrasound contrast resolution 100 percent of the time.
