Brauns Brings Leading Financial Expertise in Database Market; Continues Strong
                Corporate Leadership Appointments at Red Brick

    LOS GATOS, Calif., Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Red Brick(R) Systems, Inc.
(Nasdaq: REDB), The Data Warehouse Company(R), today announced the appointment
of Margaret Brauns to vice president and chief financial officer, effective
December 3, 1997.
    Ms. Brauns will be responsible for Red Brick's worldwide finance and
operations organization including the company's accounting, tax, investor
relations, information systems and legal functions.  In this role she will
bring strong leadership and industry expertise to Red Brick, in its transition
from a technology-driven company to a data warehouse solutions-oriented
company.

    Ms. Brauns' appointment follows that of Anthony W. Layzell, who joined Red
Brick in July as vice president of marketing, and continues the experienced
corporate leadership appointments at Red Brick.
    Ms. Brauns, 43, joined Informix Corporation as treasurer in 1990 and
served as vice president and treasurer from 1992 through October 1997.  At
Informix, she was the company's lead contact with the investment community and
also responsible for all aspects of the corporate treasury of a leading
database software company.
    Prior to Informix, Ms. Brauns was treasurer at WYSE Technology, assistant
treasurer at Spectra-Physics, Inc., and portfolio and cash manager for Digital
Equipment Corporation International.  Ms. Brauns earned an MBA from The
Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and a BA degree from Temple
University, where she graduated magna cum laude.
