FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Pediatrix Medical Group,
Inc., (NYSE: PDX) has expanded its presence in Texas with the cash acquisition
of Fort Worth Neonatal Associates, P.A., a physician group practice that
operates eight neonatal intensive care units (NICUs).
    The units managed by the group practice are all located in the Fort Worth,
Texas, metropolitan area and generated approximately 25,000 patient days in
1996 primarily at Cook-Fort Worth Medical Center and the Harris Methodist
System.
    "This is the largest of four acquisitions that we have completed in Texas
and one of the largest neonatology practices in the country. It provides us
with significant regional economies and enhances our ability to negotiate with

    In just over one year, Pediatrix has acquired and successfully integrated
neonatal physician group practices in El Paso, Houston and Dallas.  Including
today's Fort Worth acquisition, Pediatrix operates a total of 18 NICUs in
Texas.
    Since January 1, 1997, Pediatrix has added a total of 22 NICUs, including
the Fort Worth acquisition, through a combination of internal marketing
efforts and acquisitions.  During 1996, these units generated over 103,000
patient days.  For all of 1996, Pediatrix recorded approximately 186,000
patient days.
