CAMBRIDGE, Mass., May 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Biogen, Inc. (Nasdaq: BGEN) today
announced the introduction of The Avonex Alliance(SM), a new comprehensive
support program to help people with multiple sclerosis (MS), their care
partners, and health care professionals work together to help manage MS with
AVONEX(R)(Interferon beta-1a).
"We recognize that people with multiple sclerosis face a number of
distinct challenges related to successfully managing their disease. Our
ability to serve the specific needs of the MS community has played a
significant role in promoting acceptance of AVONEX and making it the MS
therapy of choice in the United States. The Avonex Alliance will provide
people with MS, as well as their care partners, with new support tools they
can use to further enhance the AVONEX treatment experience," said Jim Tobin,
President and Chief Executive Officer of Biogen.
People with MS and their care partners will receive numerous benefits when
they enroll in The Avonex Alliance. These include a periodic newsletter with
articles and updates about MS and AVONEX and other informational mailings.
Members of The Avonex Alliance who are using AVONEX will also receive
materials to support therapy, such as a video in which AVONEX users share
their experiences with therapy, and a voucher for free extra injection
supplies, such as needles and syringes, to supplement materials already
provided with each package of AVONEX.
Enrollment in the Avonex Alliance is free and can be arranged by calling
the AVONEX Support Line at 1-800-456-2255. The program is open to all people
with MS and their care partners, regardless of whether they are using AVONEX.
The Avonex Alliance complements Biogen's other AVONEX-related service
offerings, which include special pharmacy and home delivery options, a free
injection training program and reimbursement counseling. Information about
AVONEX and all these services is available by calling 1-800-456-2255.
