GSE Systems Announces Contract Awards Exceeding $7 Million; Announces Management Update

COLUMBIA, Md., May 8 /PRNewswire/ -- GSE Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq-NNM: GSES),
a leading global provider of integrated enterprise software and information
solutions to the energy, process and manufacturing industries, today
announced the receipt of several recent contract awards with a cumulative
total value exceeding $7 million.
GSE Systems received awards in the Process and Oil & Gas industries, two
of the Company's primary target markets. Following are further details
about the contracts, as well as information about the Company's primary
differentiators:

Process Industries Awards. The Company provides process control and
automation solutions to the Process industries, including the Specialty
Chemical, Food & Beverage, and Pharmaceuticals industries. Its flagship
product, D/3 DCS, is a distributed control system that helps manage plant
floor operations. GSE Systems' other Process industries products include
SimSuite Pro, an integrated simulation solution for use with D/3 DCS and
other similar systems, and FlexBatch, a recipe management system also used
in conjunction with D/3 DCS. The Company has received significant
orders in the Process industries area from the following customers:

Westinghouse Savannah River Company manufacturers nuclear material for the
Federal Government. GSE Systems recently received three contracts
totaling $5.8 million for the Company's D/3 DCS control system. Of these
awards, $2.1 million of revenue was recognized in the first quarter and
the balance of revenue is scheduled to be recognized throughout the
remainder of 1997. The Company's previous 1996 earnings adjustment related
to the delay in government approval of one of these contracts.

An undisclosed international manufacturer of specialty chemicals recently
awarded GSE Systems a contract to replace and upgrade their control
system. This contract award exceeded $1 million and the system is planned
for delivery during the second quarter of 1997.

"We're exceptionally pleased by these awards," said Chris Carnavos,
Senior Vice President. "We've been working extensively with Westinghouse
Savannah River and it's gratifying that our efforts resulted in these
significant awards. We're also very happy that we had the depth of
resources to rapidly assist another valued customer get up and running in
such a short period of time."

Oil & Gas Industry Award. The Company provides supervisory control data
acquisition, and simulation solutions for the Oil & Gas industry. Its
primary product solution is "Full Scope" SCADA, a recently announced
Windows NT-based system that provides integrated SCADA and simulation
solutions. The Company has received its first major order for this
new system from the following Local Distribution Company (LDC):

Centra Gas Manitoba, Inc., headquartered in Winnipeg, Canada is the
largest local gas distribution company in the province of Manitoba.
Following an extensive review of SCADA vendors and products, Centra Gas
awarded a $450,000 contract to GSE Systems for its "Full Scope" SCADA
    product.

"We are excited about the opportunity to provide an integrated solution
for Centra Gas," stated Carnavos. "We're convinced that our new Windows
NT-based platform, which boasts integrated operations, modeling, and
business systems information, reflects the way the industry is going
and we're very pleased to have our strategy validated so early in the
     market cycle."

(Admiral, USN - Ret.) has decided not to run for re-election to the Board when
his term expires at the upcoming shareholders meeting. Jeremiah, who has

management committee until a new CEO is named. George J. Pedersen will
assist in his capacity as the Chairman of the Executive Committee.
"On behalf of our stockholders, I want to thank the Admiral for his
