3D Visualization Software Offers Radiologists New and Enhanced Diagnostic
                                    Tools

MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Vital Images, Inc.
(Nasdaq: VTAL), an advanced medical imaging software company, today announced
that it is demonstrating the upcoming version of its 3D medical visualization
and analysis software, Vitrea(R) 2, Version 3.4, for non-invasive diagnostic
evaluation of multi-modality imaging data at the annual meeting of the
Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) in Chicago, November 30 to
December 5.
Vital Images has received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug
Administration to market the enhanced capabilities of Version 3.4. The
company expects to begin distributing Version 3.4 to new and existing Vitrea
sites under maintenance agreements within the next few weeks.
"Vital Images is committed to providing innovative imaging solutions, and
our customers have come to expect the best in our flagship Vitrea software,"
said Jay D. Miller, Vital Images' president and chief executive officer. "In
Version 3.4, we added features, enterprise-wide capabilities and improvements
to Vitrea's world-class image quality. We also added automated tools for
examining vasculature, such as coronary, carotid and other peripheral
arteries. This will help radiologists reduce their reading time significantly
by eliminating manual work." Version 3.4 also includes the integration of the
ImageChecker(R) CT LN-500 from R2 Technology, Inc., into Vitrea for lung
nodule assessment.
"Version 3.4 contains capabilities that allow users access to their Vitrea
software licenses from multiple locations within their enterprise," added
Miller. "With our new concurrent licensing capabilities, radiologists will
now be able to access a single Vitrea software license from their
institution's reading rooms, private offices and other locations within a
secure local area network."
Further improvements in DICOM interconnectivity and continuous workflow in
the enterprise are a significant part of this new version of Vitrea. New DICOM
formats for PACS systems and a new DICOM-compliant tool that allows the
clinician to save important workflow data in one location and review or edit
the data in another location enhances the enterprise user experience. Vital
Images has included new image compression capabilities to reduce network
bandwidth and system storage requirements.
