CompuMed Teams With OREX to Introduce DICOM Version of OsteoGram(R) at RSNA

Results From Independent Clinical Trial Validate OsteoGram's Accuracy and
Reliability When Integrated With CR Systems

LOS ANGELES and CHICAGO, RSNA, Dec. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CompuMed,
Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: CMPD) -- a medical informatics company serving the
healthcare community with diagnostic software solutions -- and OREX Computed
Radiography -- a leader in the development of compact Distributed Computed
Radiography systems -- today introduced the DICOM version of CompuMed's
patented OsteoGram(R) software at the 89th Scientific Assembly and Annual
Meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) in Chicago.
The OsteoGram is a software-based imaging system that enables healthcare
providers to screen, diagnose and monitor osteoporosis using either a
conventional film-based hand x-ray or an image derived from filmless x-ray
equipment. The new DICOM (Digital Communications and Imaging in Medicine)
version is designed for use with computed radiography (CR) systems such as
those marketed by OREX, which is featuring the OsteoGram at its RSNA exhibit
(booth #4550, Hall A).
"We are delighted to introduce the new DICOM OsteoGram at the world's
largest medical imaging exhibition," says CompuMed CEO Jerry McLaughlin. "RSNA
is the ideal venue for CompuMed and OREX to demonstrate the future of digital
applications on filmless medical imaging equipment."
OREX is a market leader in digital (i.e., filmless) x-ray systems. The
company recently announced that it has licensed CompuMed's OsteoGram software
for use as the bone densitometry CAD (Computer Aided Diagnosis) component of
its CR system. As part of the licensing agreement, both companies commissioned
an independent clinical trial to validate the new DICOM OsteoGram in a digital
CR environment.
An interim analysis from the ongoing clinical trial conducted at the OMC
Clinical Research Center, a California nonprofit public benefit corporation,
verified that the DICOM version of the OsteoGram achieves high correlation (r
= 0.97) to its the film-based counterpart. This exceptional correlation rate
was achieved while the OsteoGram was integrated with the OREX CR system, and
validates the accuracy and reliability of a CR-based OsteoGram in a clinical
setting.
"We are excited to be working with CompuMed and believe that the DICOM
OsteoGram is a breakthrough product," says OREX president and CEO Hillel
Bachrach. "The preliminary study results reaffirm that the OsteoGram will add
significant value to our CR systems by providing a cost effective,
around-the-clock osteoporosis screening and diagnostic solution."
The OsteoGram enables radiologists to increase efficiency and asset
utilization by seamlessly testing for osteoporosis using the same equipment
that they use for routine x-rays. CompuMed developed the new DICOM version for
use with digital radiography systems, which have become a high growth segment
of the medical imaging market. DICOM is the established information standard
that allows the new generation of digital imaging equipment to interconnect.
