HOUSTON, Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- American General Financial Group
(NYSE: AGC) today announced that Thomas M. Zurek has been named general
counsel of the American General Life Companies, the life insurance division of
American General. Zurek will have responsibility for managing the division's
legal services and will continue to oversee the litigation and employment law
functions of American General Corporation. Zurek will report to Mark S. Berg,
executive vice president and general counsel, American General Corporation.
Zurek joined American General in 1998 as senior vice president and deputy
general counsel. He previously was with the Des Moines, Iowa law firm of
Nyemaster, Goode, McLaughlin, Voigts, Hansel, & O'Brien, PC, where he served
as a principal shareholder since 1992, specializing in insurance law and
securities regulation. Zurek's 25-year legal career has focused on commercial
and tort litigation.
Zurek, 49, a native of Chicago, Illinois, received his B.S. degree in
business in 1970 and his J.D. degree in 1973 from Drake University. He has
been a member of the Board of Governors for the Iowa State Bar Association,
and has served as the president of the Polk County Bar Association.
