AirWerks-Equipped Tiburons Win Prestigious Awards From Hyundai at the 2002 SEMA Show

Tiburons Feature BorgWarner's New Aftermarket Forced-Induction Technology

    ASHEVILLE, N.C., Dec. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AirWerks, the new
aftermarket brand from BorgWarner Turbo Systems North America, is proud to
announce that two vehicles equipped with AirWerks forced-induction technology
won prestigious awards from Hyundai at the 2002 SEMA Show, held
November 5-8 in Las Vegas.
The AirWerks/Area 51 Hyundai Tiburon displayed in BorgWarner's booth
received Hyundai's award for Best Engineering Execution. The V-4 car features
an AirWerks' K series turbocharger, as well as a turbo installation kit
developed by Area 51 Fabrications. The forced-induction system is projected
to increase horsepower from a stock 134 to 250 hp. Hyundai judges were
impressed with the very clean, well-engineered turbocharger installation.
They also appreciated the considerable effort involved in transplanting the
all-wheel-drive system from a Hyundai Santa Fe SUV into the AirWerks/Area
51 Tiburon.
In addition, Hyundai awarded Best Tiburon to Street Concepts' car, which
was displayed in Hyundai's booth. This 6 cylinder Tiburon sports an AirWerks
boost package, also installed by Area 51. The prototype boosting device,
which garnered considerable attention at the SEMA Show, is expected to
increase engine output from the stock 170 to 250 hp. "This car had the
perfect combination of styling ... and all the right performance," noted
Hyundai judge Justin Osborne.
"We launched the AirWerks brand at the 2002 SEMA Show," says Jack Lorimer,
North American Aftermarket Director for BorgWarner Turbo Systems. "With the
intent of making the performance community aware of BorgWarner and its new
aftermarket brand, AirWerks. But to have vehicles equipped with our forced-
air technology win the Best Engineering Execution Award-and the Best Tiburon
Award-at their unveiling is unprecedented, and incredibly gratifying."
Hyundai judges selected these two Tiburons from nearly two dozen vehicles
on display at the SEMA Show, all of which had been built by top names in the
industry.
