Helping the Children and Spouses of the Victims of the 'Attack on America' Realize their Educational Dreams

Lindenwood University Provides $1 Million Gift to Families of Freedom
                             Scholarship Fund(TM)

MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Lindenwood University, located in St.
Charles, Mo., has established a $1 million matching scholarship program for
the Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund(TM). It joins Harvard University,
which has pledged $1 million to the Fund's campaign, and the American Council
on Education to support this effort on behalf of higher education.
The Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund(TM) is dedicated to providing
education assistance for postsecondary study to financially needy dependents
of those killed or permanently disabled as a result of the terrorist attacks
and during rescue activities relating to those attacks.
"Lindenwood University is proud to offer matching scholarships to families
of the victims of this terrible attack. America is a strong, compassionate
nation and we are happy to offer this assistance to those who have given so
much," said Dennis Spellman, president, Lindenwood University.
The Lindenwood University Fund will match, dollar for dollar, scholarship
awards from the Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund(TM) to students attending
Lindenwood University each academic year. Awards are renewable each year for
up to four years provided the student(s) establishes and maintains good
standing with the University. Specific inquiries regarding the scholarship
should be directed to Mr. Carl Bearden, 636-949-4903.
Citizens' Scholarship Foundation of America(TM) (CSFA), the nation's
largest private sector scholarship and educational support organization
located in St. Peter and Minneapolis, Minn., and Lumina Foundation for
Education, a private foundation dedicated to expanding access to postsecondary
education located in Indianapolis, Ind., created the Fund on September 17,
2001. The Fund will benefit dependents of the victims, including airplane
crew and passengers, World Trade Center and Pentagon workers and visitors, and
rescue workers, including firefighters, emergency medical personnel and law
enforcement personnel. Former President Bill Clinton and former Senate
Majority Leader Bob Dole are serving as co-chairs of the campaign fund effort.
Lindenwood University joins the Lumina Foundation for Education, which
created the Fund with a $3 million grant -- $2 million directly to the
scholarship fund and $1 million as a dollar-for-dollar matching grant -- to
encourage contributions from individuals. Lindenwood University is a leader
in the state of Missouri in providing financial aid based on need, and the
Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund(TM) is a natural extension of
Lindenwood's demonstrated record of providing opportunities for students to
attend an institution of higher learning.
"We at CSFA have pledged that all contributions -- 100 percent of the
principal -- will go directly to support undergraduate education at an
accredited, U.S.-based college, university, or vocational/technical school for
the victims' family members throughout the life of the program," said William
C. Nelsen, president of CSFA. "The program will extend to currently enrolled
undergraduate students, as well as future students, for the life of the Fund."
CSFA will work with government agencies and known employers of victims to
assemble the database of eligible participants in the program. The size of
the eventual financial awards will depend on the size of the Fund, the numbers
of eligible participants, and the financial need of applicants. CSFA plans to
begin assisting financially needy eligible survivors currently enrolled in
qualified institutions as early as January, 2002.
