YORK, Pa., Dec. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- In advance of the Baker Report being
issued, U.S. Army Reserves Lieutenant Colonel Craig Trebilcock, Esq., who
fought in Iraq and wrote a thinly veiled, fictional account of his
experiences in a book titled "One Weekend a Month," now available on online
bookstore WOWIO, says dividing the country along religious lines is the
only way to resolve the conflict.
"Those who keep parroting that positive change is just around the
corner are fooling themselves and the American people," contends Lt. Col.
Trebilcock. "Beyond returning to a dictatorship, peace in Iraq can only be
achieved by partitioning the country into autonomous Kurdish, Sunni and
Shiite regions."
Lt. Col. Trebilcock, a 20-year veteran of the Army and Army Reserves,
was mobilized in 2003 for Operation Iraqi Freedom and served 12 months in
Iraq and Kuwait. He helped coordinate restoration of the Iraqi legal
system. "I led convoys around Baghdad while working with Iraqi government
officials and Ambassador Bremer's staff. We were shot at, rocketed, stoned
and almost blown up in a suicide bomber attack while on duty," he says. "I
was out in the chaos, which gives me a different perspective on what is
needed to fix the place and bring our soldiers home."
Lt. Col. Trebilcock has strong views on other aspects of the war. He
cites Turkey's "allergy" to an independent Kurdish Republic, the Iraqis'
perpetuation of violence as a means of "acting out" against the U.S., and
American military presence being a "magnet attracting destabilizing
elements into Iraq" as major obstacles to peace.
"We have reached the limit of any positive developments in Iraq that
can be accomplished by long-term U.S. involvement," says Lt. Col.
Trebilcock.
Lt. Col. Trebilcock was stationed in West Germany in the early 1990s
and served in the Balkans during the U.S. peacekeeping mission in Bosnia.
He has been selected for promotion to the rank of Colonel. An immigration
attorney for the law firm of Shumaker Williams, Lt. Col. Trebilcock, his
wife and two sons reside in Shrewsbury Township, Pa. He also serves as
staff judge advocate for the Pennsylvania Veterans of Foreign Wars.
