KLAMATH FALLS, Ore., Dec. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Two Fred Meyer trailers
arrived in Klamath Falls Wednesday morning filled with turkeys, trees, toys,
and books to help the Salvation Army make the holidays brighter this year for
families in the Klamath Basin.
"This is the largest single donation we have ever received to my
knowledge," Klamath Basin Salvation Army Envoy in Charge Stephen Slater said.
"The entire basin is in the greatest of need this year. Requests for our
services are up 70 percent over last year. This gigantic donation that
combines food with holiday cheer could not come at a better time."
The donation features 1,000 turkeys for holiday meals that range from 10
to 16 pounds apiece and fill most of one trailer. Included for the kids are
240 plush Fred Bears 16-inches tall, about 200 miscellaneous toys, and 1,000
golden books. To add holiday cheer for basin families are 1,000 strings of
red, white, and blue cluster lights and an entire trailer filled with 471
Douglas Fir holiday trees.
Mike Striefel, store director of the Klamath Falls Fred Meyer, presented
the donation to The Salvation Army at its "Christmas Castle" located at 3045
South Sixth St. in Klamath Falls. "We are proud build on our earlier
donations by capping off the year with this huge two-trailer delivery,"
Striefel said. "As drought and water problems took their toll this year, Fred
Meyer was out in the community helping over and over again. After supplying
meat for a barbeque in the spring to raise money for farmers, the company
followed with two trailers filled with food when the food bank was at its
lowest ebb, and later supplied 2,500 gallons of water to Bonanza when that
community faced a groundwater contamination crisis. This holiday donation
reaffirms the Fred Meyer commitment to helping families in need in the Klamath
Basin and other communities served by our stores."
