"Keeping kids and families happy and healthy has been Dixie's mantra
throughout this century, and we're going to continue that commitment to
healthy families with even more innovations in the years to come," says
Mark Lindley, director of Corporate Communications for Fort James Corporation.
"This year, new My First Dixie Cups will carry that healthy tradition one step
further by helping parents to teach their children other important lessons
such as their ABCs."
A Healthy History
The first Dixie cup was created in 1919, on the heels of a devastating
influenza outbreak. Originally named the "Health Kup," it was a sanitary
replacement for the then-common tin drinking cup used at all public fountains.
Since then, Dixie Cups have been used by hundreds of millions of
Americans, but not just to help prevent disease. Through such innovations as
the famous Dixie Riddle Cup, Dixie has become a cherished part of many
families' kitchens and bathroom routines.
My First Dixie Debut
To commemorate one of the most successful and most recognized inventions
of the millennium, Dixie introduced My First Dixie(TM), the first in an
educational series of cups. Decorated with brightly colored alphabet letters
and illustrations, the My First Dixie(TM) Alphabet Cups are a perfect way to
help teach children their ABCs and simple words. The 5 oz. disposable cups
were designed for use by toddlers and pre-school children. They hold the
right amount of liquid for most small children and are great for holding small
snacks too. On top of that, parents love them (and all Dixie Cups) because
the cups prevent the spread of germs, eliminate mess in the kitchen and help
reduce household chores.
My First Dixie Cups are available in supermarkets nationwide for a
suggested retail price of $1.99. The Dixie brand offers premium disposable
cups and dispensers in a variety of sizes and designs including 3 oz. and
5 oz. bathroom cups in addition to the 7 oz. and 9 oz. kitchen cups and 9 oz.
and 16 oz. plastic cups.
