Cingular has Lead Role in the Network's Original Sunday Night Comedy
'Seguro y Urgente'
HIALEAH, Fla. and ATLANTA, Dec. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- In a Hispanic
television first, Telemundo, a leading producer of innovative and
high-quality content for Hispanics in the U.S., and Cingular Wireless have
struck a deal that will integrate the #1 wireless provider in the country
into the storyline of the network's original Sunday night comedy, "Seguro y
Urgente," starring Miguel Varoni. The deal also provides exclusive content
from the sitcom to Cingular customers.
A Telemundo original comedy, "Seguro y Urgente," follows the adventures
of a messenger who works for TDG, a small mail services company that
charges him with the oddest home deliveries. In every half-hour episode,
simple deliveries turn into chaos, putting Miguel in situations that he
will only be able to get out of by using his unique charm, noble heart and,
of course, his Cingular cell-phone to keep him connected to his friends who
always come to the rescue.
The sitcom, shot in Miami, is based on the experiences of many U.S.
Hispanics who work in the United States, including the way they use their
cell phones as a social connector with family and friends. Hispanic
consumers are among the heavier users of wireless services: they use more
minutes, send more text messages, and download more ringtones and other
data services than any other group.
Under the agreement, Cingular has exclusive rights to "Seguro y
Urgente" theme music, wallpaper graphics, and outtakes, which the company
makes available to its customers through its Cingular Video service. The
wireless company will also have extensive and innovative product
integration in the storyline of the show, including scenes shot in its
company stores as well as references to phones in select episodes. In
addition, Telemundo's "Seguro y Urgente" star Miguel Varoni, will appear in
Cingular commercials and Cingular will sponsor all of the online elements
offered for "Seguro y Urgente" on http://www.yahootelemundo.com.
"We are thrilled to be working with Cingular Wireless on this unique
approach to our new show 'Seguro y Urgente,'" said Steve Mandala, Senior
Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Telemundo and NBC Universal Networks.
This is the perfect example of the unique propositions of our original
programming strategy and a great combination of efforts from two brands
that are deeply rooted in offering quality products to their consumers."
"Our commitment to delivering quality service, excellent content, and
entertainment options that are culturally-relevant to our Hispanic
consumers is unwavering," said Roberto Garcia, Executive Director of
Hispanic Marketing, Cingular Wireless. "This is an exciting next step into
our strategy to look for innovative ways to meet the needs of this dynamic
consumer base."
Cingular is a pioneer in delivering culturally-relevant content and
customer service to U.S. Hispanics. This year, the company converted more
than 520 stores nationwide to a bilingual concept, with signage, staff, and
detailed product information available in English and Spanish. Stores are
located in key established and emerging Hispanic markets including Los
Angeles' Huntington Park, now home of Cingular's flagship store with more
than 5,000 sq. feet of retail space. Episodes of "Seguro y Urgente" will be
shot inside one Cingular's bilingual stores in Miami.
"Seguro y Urgente" airs every Sunday at 9:00pm (ET/PT). For more
