SM&A Developed Instrument Display for Agilent Technologies' First Low-Cost PC-Hosted Logic Analyzer

Improves Price/Performance, Provides Breakthrough Ease of Use

    NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., Dec. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- SM&A Corporation
(Nasdaq: WINS), the nation's premier provider of integrated proposal
management, systems engineering, and information technology solutions, today
announced it developed with Agilent Technologies Inc, a subsidiary of
Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE: A), the instrument display used on the recently
introduced Agilent LogicWave E9340A PC-hosted logic analyzer. The new display
incorporates a Microsoft(R) Windows(R) user interface that makes it easy to
use all of the analyzer's most commonly used features while simultaneously
having data accessible on the same screen.
The Agilent LogicWave logic analyzer, introduced last November, is a
low-cost PC-hosted logic analyzer utilizing display and processing software
jointly developed by Agilent and SM&A. Designed specifically to provide
engineers with breakthrough, easy-to-understand functionality in a compact,
lightweight package, the new PC-hosted analyzer -- Agilent's first -- is
priced at about 50 percent less than an Agilent benchtop logic analyzer of
comparable performance.
Michael A. Piraino, SM&A President and Chief Operating Officer, stated,
"We are very excited and pleased to have played a significant role in helping
the acknowledged world leader in logic analysis bring such an innovative
product to the market. It represents our commitment to excellence in
developing new products for companies such as Agilent."
SM&A's Piraino further added, "We believe we will see an immediate
contribution to our revenues with the introduction of products such as
Agilent's LogicWave logic analyzer and other new test and measurement software
from our Information Technology Solutions Group."
Commenting on the launch of Agilent's Logic Wave logic analyzer, Scott A.
Sampl, General Manager for Agilent's general-purpose solutions unit stated,
"The Agilent LogicWave logic analyzer is the culmination of interactions with
more than a thousand customers. By focusing on usability improvements and
using the PC monitor as the instrument's display, we have been able to meet
our customers' need for a user-friendly, compact and affordable logic
analyzer."
Logic analyzers are popular debug tools for electronics. Increasingly,
they are recognized as essential tools for hardware debug and FPGA
(field-programmable gate array) design because they can help pinpoint debug
and design problems quickly.
Because engineers often share logic analyzers, designers sometimes have to
work longer with less-than-optimal tools, such as an oscilloscope, to debug
systems or boards for which a logic analyzer is better suited. The lower
price of a PC-hosted product means that more designers can own a logic
analyzer or that design teams can own more than one. With their own logic
analyzers, engineers can isolate hardware problems more quickly, improving the
time it takes to deliver their products to the marketplace.
The Agilent E9340A LogicWave logic analyzer provides 34 channels with
100 MHz state and 250 MHz timing analysis and 128K samples of depth per
channel. Engineers can try the Agilent LogicWave logic analyzer interface by
