PR Newswire to Remain Fully Staffed During New Year's Holiday

NEW YORK, Dec. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Hundreds of major news sources are
expected to instantly alert news media around the world of their fortunes and
foibles during the upcoming Millennium Weekend over PR Newswire.
In anticipation of this flurry of Y2K-related announcements from its
customers, PR Newswire today said it would fully staff all news release
distribution operations during the New Year holiday weekend. PR Newswire
historically operates 24 hours a day with reduced staffing during lower volume
periods such as weekends and major holidays.
PR Newswire senior management, editors and technology staff will be on
hand to assist customers throughout the company's network of 35 global
bureaus, according to John M. Williams, PR Newswire's executive vice
president. PR Newswire joins many PR agencies and media outlets that have
expressed their intent to remain staffed during the holiday.
"PR Newswire will be here for our clients -- both companies and the
media," Williams said. "We are confident that everything will flow smoothly
on New Year's Eve. We will be at full capacity because we expect a lot of
companies to be issuing news releases this year and many more reporters to be
looking for these stories."
Prior to the end of the year, customers may test their news release
distribution through fax, modem, PRN Direct or e-mail in its Y2K Lab, a
Year 2000-ready environment. More than 33,000 members rely on PR Newswire to
deliver their information from earnings releases and announcements to product
news and events. High demand from the media and companies led PR Newswire
several years ago to create special resources for communicating issues related
to the Year 2000, Williams said.
All news releases sent out over the wire relating to the Year 2000 are
posted to a special section on the technology page of the main web site,
http://www.prnewswire.com , as well as on the Tech Beat section of the
journalist-only PRN Press Room, http://www.prnmedia.com . The archive
contains more than 1,000 news releases dating as far back as September 1997.
    NEWSdesk International, http://www.newsdesk.com , PR Newswire's news
retrieval and tracking system, has provided journalists with access to
releases on the Year 2000 since 1996. More than 2,200 journalists have
requested access. The Y2K archive contains more than 800 releases.
Three Millennium feature news packages distributed this year contained
stories with Y2K issues as the major emphasis. The final package of the year
will be issued on December 20, and more Y2K stories are expected, Williams
said. PR Newswire also offers a special distribution option reaching more
than 80 journalists from over 40 publications who cover Year 2000 issues.
