* Middle and High School Students Encouraged to Participate
* To Promote Reflection on Nuclear and Other Energy Sources
PITTSBURGH, Dec. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Westinghouse Electric Company today
announced sponsorship of a science video contest for Middle and High School
Students focusing on energy.
Administered through the company's speaker's bureau, N-Vision, the
contest is designed to encourage young persons to think about energy in the
context of worldwide political, economic and environmental realities.
John Goossen, Director of the Science and Technology Department for
Westinghouse, said the contest is consistent with Westinghouse's ongoing
effort to encourage young people to take a stronger interest in math and
science.
"As the world's pioneering nuclear power company, Westinghouse employs
a high number of engineers, chemists, physicists and computer scientists,"
he said. "We also realize that it is technology that will help the world
meet its growing need for energy in a manner that is both economically and
environmentally sound."
The contest is open to all middle and high schools where Westinghouse
has a presence. To be eligible, each video must outline three key
advantages of nuclear power and two other forms of energy. The video can be
staged as a short play, commercial, news broadcast, talk show, music video,
documentary, etc. Students are encouraged to be creative, yet informative.
Each winning school will receive $3,000 to be put towards its science
department's needs and each student involved will receive $100 to use for
school supplies. Specific guidelines and an application for the contest can
be found on the Westinghouse website at: http://www.westinghousenuclear.com and
under the "Communities" and "Student Video Contest". Teachers and schools
are encouraged to enter interested students in the contest by February 16,
2007. The entry video is not due until May 1, 2007.
