SAN DIEGO, Dec. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Gateway, Inc. (NYSE: GTW) today
introduced the Solo(R) 5350 notebook computer designed for a range of business
users and consumers who need a notebook packed with performance in a highly
portable form factor. The addition of the Solo 5350 further expands Gateway's
award-winning line of Solo notebook computers along with the new entry-level
Solo 1400 notebook computer. (Please see related announcement on the Gateway
Solo 1400, also issued today.)
"As a growing number of computer users work from home offices or in
offices with wireless networks, they're more likely to need the freedom a
mobile PC provides -- but they don't want to sacrifice performance or
reliability for mobility," said Mike Stinson, vice president of mobile
products, Gateway, Inc. "Gateway designed the Solo 5350 for its customers who
need a single computer for unsurpassed performance and productivity in any
environment. Plus, our customers will enjoy the friendly, straight-forward
service and support provided in Gateway stores across the U.S."
The product is perfectly suited for small to large business users who need
a reliable computer for working in the office or on the road. Institutional
and corporate users will appreciate the Solo 5350's use of standard components
and long product lifecycles, which increase stability and reduce the total
cost of ownership. Plus, the device provides high-end performance features
including a Mobile Intel(R) 1.06GHz Pentium(R) III Processor-M, 256MB SDRAM
and a 20GB hard disk drive.
The Solo 5350 combines productivity and entertainment features in a highly
portable 1.36-inch thin, 5.14-pound(4) frame. The Solo 5350 incorporates a
huge 14.1-inch high-resolution display, a combination DVD/CD-RW drive,
advanced 4x AGP graphics and front-firing speakers, which make the system
ideal for displaying presentations, listening to and burning music CDs, and
viewing DVD movies and digital photography.
Gateway customers can rely on the Solo 5350 to keep them connected in just
a few clicks at home, in the office or anywhere they go. The new notebook is
offered with optional integrated wireless connectivity using Wi-Fi (IEEE
802.11b) technology -- a must for government agencies and students at
educational institutions who need to connect to a wireless network. Mobile
professionals can use the Solo 5350's integrated V.90 56K(3) modem and
integrated 10/100 Ethernet and the two USB ports to maximize productivity
while on the road.
The Solo 5350 is available with Microsoft's new Windows XP Professional
Edition and Microsoft Works Suite 2001(5).
The Solo 5350XL is available now at $1,999 (shipping and handling extra).
