-- Results Led to Accelerated Adoption of New Pro/ENGINEER(R) Wildfire(TM)--
NEEDHAM, Mass., Dec. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- PTC (Nasdaq: PMTC) today announced
that longtime PTC customer Babcock Power Environmental, Inc. of Worcester,
MA., a leading worldwide supplier of fully integrated environmental solutions
for utility power plants, waste-to-energy facilities and large industrial
applications, has achieved a 69 percent proficiency improvement in its use of
Pro/ENGINEER as a result of PTC's new Digital Model Definition Optimizer.
For Babcock Power, which also makes power-producing equipment and
services, such as boilers and fuel burning equipment, the ability to rapidly
and accurately create business proposals is essential to effectively competing
in the highly competitive global power market. The benefits of the Digital
Model Definition Optimizer were so compelling that Babcock accelerated plans
to move to Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire, the latest version of PTC's award-winning
design and development software.
PTC's Digital Model Definition Optimizer is a service offering that
targets improvements in people, processes and technology through a mix of
face-to-face and Web-based training on both an individual and group basis. In
addition, process consulting and a technology evaluation with recommendations
are provided. PTC guarantees a 20 percent increase in Pro/ENGINEER proficiency
as a result of this service offering.
At Babcock, the Digital Model Definition Optimizer exposed new and
underutilized functionality to Babcock's users, leading to greater individual
and process efficiencies. Engineers saw top down design techniques improve by
111 percent and large assembly management techniques improved by 40 percent.
Babcock also experienced a 53 percent improvement in assembly opening time, 38
percent less computer memory used, and improved morale and increased
confidence among Pro/ENGINEER users, further amplifying productivity.
"PTC, through its Digital Model Definition Optimizer, brought the baseline
skill set of Pro/ENGINEER users up a level, so that work can now be
distributed to anyone on the team," reported Mike Rider, Babcock's Engineering
Resource Manager. "Now I don't have to always find my 'go to' person when I
have a challenge. All of our users are 'go to' people.
"Before the Digital Model Definition Optimizer, we didn't have the time,
the flexibility, or the Pro/ENGINEER skills to iterate on proposals for new
business while still meeting our customers' deadlines. We can now deliver a
proposal with a detailed representation of our custom environmental control
system - complete with the correct geometry and weights. Generating proposals
this rapidly gives Babcock a huge competitive advantage. Our return on
investment was immediate and dramatic," Rider noted.
