RESTON, Va., Dec. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Technical Services Company
LLC (RTSC), a subsidiary of Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN), has been awarded a
five-year indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) U. S. Army contract
to develop and supply the Special Operations Forces (SOF) Demolition Kit
(SDK).
With a contract ceiling of $29.5 million, this award provides a vehicle
for the procurement of special operations equipment by all services. With the
exception of the explosives loading, work will be performed in Indianapolis.
The contract was awarded by Program Manager, Closed Combat Systems, U.S. Army.
SDK is a family of demolition items and state-of-the-art attachment
devices that provides special-purpose, remotely detonated explosive charges.
The kits allow users to quickly assemble and attach a demolition charge that
is tailored to any of a wide variety of targets, such as armored construction,
masonry and reinforced concrete.
"SDK gives Special Operations Forces the capability to construct the
smallest, lightest charge feasible with maximum precision and minimum time on-
target," stated Roland Pangan, SDK program manager at RTSC. "The multiple
sizes of high-performance explosively formed penetrator warheads contained in
the kit enable accurate remote demolition. With SDK, demolition goals can be
achieved quickly and precisely from a distance that provides added safety for
the SOF users."
RTSC's initial involvement with the Special Operations Forces Demolition
Kits was as a member of a government integrated product team tasked to
transition the kits from the government's development to production. Since
that time, Raytheon has evolved the program over six production builds, an
evolution that will continue under this competitive award.
"Throughout the six previous builds, Raytheon has worked with the
government to make SDK more producible by recommending design modifications,"
said Bryan J. Even, a vice president of Raytheon Company and president of
RTSC. "We achieved this by improving our production process to increase
quality, reduce labor cost, and ensure on-time delivery. The result was an
improved demolition kit at a better value. Continued refinement of our
processes throughout this award period will allow Raytheon to provide
additional quality and value improvements to the Special Operations Forces."
