Championship
BALTIMORE, Dec. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Constellation Energy
(NYSE: CEG) today announced that the Constellation Energy Golf Foundation
has distributed $400,000 to four Maryland-based charitable organizations
resulting from the 2007 Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship.
Those organizations receiving funds include The First Tee of Baltimore,
Kennedy Krieger Institute, Union Memorial Sports Medicine and Baltimore
Community Foundation/BGE Community Assistance Fund.
"We are pleased that as a result of the 2007 Constellation Energy
Senior Players Championship, four very deserving Maryland charities have
each received $100,000 to assist with their vital work in our community,"
said Mayo A. Shattuck III, chairman, president and chief executive officer
of Constellation Energy and chairman of the Constellation Energy Golf
Foundation. "The most rewarding aspect about being the title sponsor of
this prestigious event is its focus on giving back to the community. This
tournament is an example of Constellation Energy's commitment to social
responsibility - one of our foundational values - in the communities where
we live, work and conduct business. As Maryland's second largest company,
we are particularly committed to improving the quality of life in our home
state. We hold the distinction of being Central Maryland's largest
contributor to the United Way, as well as proud supporter of many other
Maryland-based organizations."
"We are happy to be playing the Constellation Energy Senior Players
Championship tournament in Baltimore and even more pleased that we can
contribute to worthwhile causes in this community, including The First Tee
of Baltimore, Kennedy Krieger Institute, Union Memorial Hospital Sports
Medicine and the Baltimore Community Foundation/BGE Community Assistance
Fund," said Rick George, president of the Champions Tour and executive vice
president of Championship Management. "The goal of all PGA TOUR and
Champions Tour events is to give back to the communities in which our
tournaments are staged. We surpassed the $1 billion mark in charitable
giving on all three Tours during the 2005 season (including the Nationwide
Tour) and with the help of top-notch events like the Constellation Energy
Senior Players Championship, we expect to reach $2 billion in the next five
to seven years. Congratulations to all who were involved in this year's
very successful tournament."
The Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship was held Oct. 1-7,
2007, at Baltimore Country Club in Timonium, Md., and was the first-ever
PGA TOUR or Champions event to be powered fully by renewable energy.
Constellation Energy employed various strategies to ensure that all of the
tournament's energy needs were offset with clean, renewable energy,
including purchasing through its retail electric supply business,
Constellation NewEnergy, an estimated 100 megawatt-hours of renewable
energy credits to offset energy consumption at the clubhouse. On-site
bio-diesel generators were used to power all facilities throughout the
course, and all plastic and cardboard generated from course concessions and
tournament materials were recycled.
The Constellation Energy Senior Players Championship is one of five
major championships on the PGA TOUR's Champions Tour for eligible
professionals age 50 and over. Dates for next year's event are Oct. 6-12,
2008. The Championship is contested on the East Course at Baltimore Country
Club in Timonium, Md., with a field of 78 Champions Tour players competing
for a share of the $2.6 million purse, the largest of the season. As the
last of the Champions Tour majors, the double Charles Schwab Cup points
awarded to the top-10 finishers are a critical factor in deciding the
Charles Schwab Cup points race. For information about corporate sponsorship
