Netscape Announces Key Additions to Management Team

    MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Dec. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Netscape Communications, a
leading Internet company and a subsidiary of America Online (NYSE: AOL), today
announced that it has added three new executives to the Netscape Netcenter
management team, reporting to Jim Martin, Senior Vice President and Netcenter
General Manager.
    Susan Mernit, a highly respected veteran of the online publishing world,
will serve as Vice President of Programming, responsible for all content
initiatives on Netscape Netcenter, the business-focused interactive portal
service that is one of Media Metrix' five top-rated Web destinations from
work.
    Ms. Mernit most recently served as Director of ParadeNet, Parade
Publications' new media division.  She had previously developed such
award-winning Web sites as New Jersey Online, The Yuckiest Site on the
Internet, and Community Connection, and spent five years developing,
launching, and running The Scholastic Network, a highly successful online
educational venture.
    The Company also named two additional new executives to work with
Ms. Mernit on expanding Netcenter's content offerings:

    -- Laurie Chesler, Senior Director of General Programming, will develop
       the business and product strategy for the Netcenter General Programming
       Channel.  She has extensive experience in a variety of media including
       the Internet, television, short films/documentaries, publishing and
       advertising.

    -- Tom Brew, Director of Daily Programming, will be responsible for daily
       news and other content.  He joins Netscape after four years as a senior
       news editor at MSNBC.com, and a 19-year newspaper career that included
       12 years as an editor at the San Jose Mercury News.
