BRIDGEVILLE, Pa., Dec. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Department of
Transportation will participate in "Lights on for Life" Day, a designated
24-hour period when drivers keep their headlights on to commemorate fatalities
caused by impaired driving. On Friday, December 15, PennDOT drivers will join
motorists across the country showing their support for responsible driving
behavior over the holidays.
PennDOT District Engineer, Ray Hack said, "We want to remind people to
drive safely and obey the traffic laws. Our goal is too make the roads not
only swifter and smoother, but also a safer place to travel during the busy
holidays when people may have things on their minds other than safety."
"Lights on for Life" Day kicks off the National Holiday Lifesavers Weekend
from December 15 through 17, 2000. The weekend is part of National Drunk and
Drugged Driving Prevention Month. The winter holidays are among the deadliest
times of the year because of impaired driving.
