PORTLAND, Ore., Dec. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Willamette Industries, Inc.
(NYSE: WLL) has announced plans to acquire a 46% interest in Corrugados La
Colmena, S.A. DE C.V., a manufacturer of corrugated boxes, located in the
Mexico City area.
The Hererra family, which represents the majority ownership, will continue
to be responsible for day-to-day management of the company.
"This is Willamette's first manufacturing venture in Mexico," said William
P. Kinnune, executive vice president in charge of Willamette's corrugated
operations. "We are pleased to be affiliated with the Hererra family which
has built a first-rate business in a growing and strengthening market place."
Willamette's agreement with the Hererra family provides for an increasing
ownership percentage by Willamette over time and a long-term minority interest
position by the Hererras.
Corrugados recently completed an expansion of its manufacturing facilities
and just recently announced plans to acquire additional manufacturing
equipment to expand its product line and better serve its customers.
According to Kinnune, "Corrugados is currently supplying several prominent
companies and looks forward to additional opportunities as new production
capacity becomes available."
Willamette is a vertically integrated forest products company with
97 manufacturing plants in the United States and Ireland. In addition, the
Company owns 1.8 million acres of timberland in the United States and produces
a variety of building materials and paper products.
