Ronald W. Simms Named Chairman of the Board of Directors Of Pennsylvania Enterprises, Inc. and PG Energy Inc.

    WILKES-BARRE, Pa., Dec. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania Enterprises, Inc.
(NYSE: PNT) (PEI) and PG Energy Inc. (PG Energy) today announced that the
Board of Directors has elected Ronald W. Simms as Chairman of the Board of the
respective Companies.  Mr. Simms succeeds Mr. Kenneth L. Pollock who served as
Chairman from June 1987 until his unexpected death December 5, 1998.
    Mr. Simms, 59, has served on the Board of Directors of PEI and PG Energy
since March 1991.  He is a member of PEI's Executive, Audit, Compensation,
Planning and Stock Option Committees and the Investment Committee of the
Employees' Retirement Plan.  He is also Board Chairman of Pennsylvania Gas
Development Co., a subsidiary of PEI.
    Mr. Simms is Chief Executive Officer of Petroleum Service Company, Inc. of
Wilkes-Barre, a wholesale and retail distributor of a full range of petroleum
products and services.  His leadership qualities are exemplified in the
positions he holds as a director of Pennsylvania-American Water Company; Board
Chairman, First Heritage Bank; Secretary/Treasurer, The Black Horse
Foundation, Inc.; Director, Lehigh Landmark Corp.; Board Chairman and Chief
Executive Officer, Mountain Production Services, Inc. and Mountain
Productions, Inc.; and Secretary/Treasurer, Petroleum Sales Company, Inc.
    Mr. Simms is a graduate of Wilkes University, Wilkes-Barre, where he
earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce and Finance.  He also attended
and completed programs at the U.S. Army War College, the National Defense
University, the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and the U.S. Army
Artillery School.
    While in the U.S. Armed Forces, Mr. Simms served as Lieutenant Colonel at
the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics at the Pentagon.  He
also served in the 1st Battalion of the 109th Field Artillery, Kingston.  Mr.
Simms is the recipient of the National Defense University Graduate Award.
    Mr. Simms' affiliations with business, community, and civic organizations
are numerous.  In 1981, he received the Wilkes-Barre Lions Citizen of the Year
Award.  Mr. Simms has served on Governor Tom Ridge's Task Force for Sports and
Exposition Facilities and is a former board director of Geisinger Wyoming
Valley, Merchants Bancorp, Inc., Atlantic Insurance Services, Wyoming Valley
Hospital, and Medicenter, Inc.  His contribution to the region's economic
growth includes serving as former director of the Economic Development Council
of Northeastern Pennsylvania and the Private Industry Council C.E.T.A. and as
former Chairman of the Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce.  In serving the
community, Mr. Simms is a former Trustee of Wilkes University, a former Policy
Board Member of Wilkes-Hahnemann Program; a former director of the United Way
of Wyoming Valley, and a former President of the Wilkes-Barre Kiwanis Club.
    Mr. Simms resides in Kingston with his wife, Rhea.  They are the parents
of Margaret Ann Simms, Virginia Leigh Rose and Emma Lynn Kluger.
