Pioneer in evidence-based medicine enters year with new products in
immunopathology and neuroscience
DEDHAM, Mass., Dec. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Signet Laboratories, a pioneer in
evidence-based medicine (EviMed), today announced the expansion of its product
line of diagnostic assays and antibodies for detection and treatment of
critical disease states.
Over the past year, Signet has launched an array of monoclonal and
polyclonal antibodies and ELISA kits for cancer, infectious disease and
neurodegenerative disease.
As part of its continuing efforts to develop a new diagnostic/therapeutic
regime for Sepsis and Acute Renal Failure (SARF), Signet unveiled two new RUO
diagnostics: the ABP-26(TM) assay for Sepsis, and the NEPHROSCREEN(TM) assay
for Acute Renal Failure. Both assays measure levels of Adenosine Deaminase
Binding Protein (ADBP), which has been shown to rise in urine samples prior to
onset of both Sepsis and Acute Renal Failure, enabling detection and use of
preventive therapy far earlier than current conventional diagnostic regimes.
Dr. Richard D. Gill, President and CEO of Signet Laboratories, said,
"Signet Laboratories is committed to developing products that give physicians
a better early warning system and more timely intervention options to curb
mortality rates and promote improved therapeutic outcomes and quality of life
for patients."
He added, "Our goal is to continue to create new reagents and diagnostics
that predict emergence of disease, and develop therapies as reliable
preventive weapons against disease in clinical settings."
In addition to the ABP-26(TM) and NEPHROSCREEN(TM) assays, Signet's new
Immunopathology products include:
* P504s(TM) - An antibody aiding in the diagnosis of prostate cancer and
neoplastic changes in prostate biopsies.
* ACUITY(TM) Mouse-on-Mouse Polymer Detection System -- A detection
system for use with monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies on mouse or
rat tissue. ACUITY(TM) provides cost savings by enabling researchers to
use less antibody, while increasing staining intensity and eliminating
background.
According to Angela Thomas, IHC Product Manager for Signet Laboratories,
"Signet's detection technologies include highly sensitive chemistries for both
human and animal tissues. Signet's ACUITY(TM) polymer detection technologies
increase sensitivity, and require less antibody -- providing unparalleled cost
savings. Signet is also pleased to offer ACUITY(TM) Mouse-on-Mouse as an
expansion of the ACUITY(TM) product line."
In the area of Neuroscience, Signet plans to announce several new antibody
lines available in early 2005, including products for Alzheimer's Disease,
Parkinson's disease, Prion diseases, and Multiple Sclerosis.
Signet's most recent additions to its Neuroscience product line include:
* Apolipoprotein J (Apo-J(TM)/clusterin) -- An antibody for detecting
Apo-J, a protein implicated in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's Disease.
* DJ-1(TM) (monoclonal and polyclonal) -- RUO diagnostics for detecting
DJ-1, a protein found to be causative of early-onset, autosomal
recessive Parkinson's disease.
* Beta Amyloid 1-40(TM) and Beta Amyloid 1-42(TM) ELISA Kits -- Two
highly sensitive assays for measuring the 40 and 42 amino acid isoforms
of beta amyloid protein. Beta amyloid processing and aggregation are
considered to be key components in Alzheimer's Disease progression.
"The search for effective biomarkers is a key function for researchers in
the neurodegenerative disease area," said Joe Bertelsen, Neuroscience Product
Manager for Signet Laboratories. "Our latest neuroscience product releases
demonstrate Signet's commitment to identifying and developing innovative
protein markers with the potential to aid in early diagnosis of brain
disorders."
About Signet Laboratories, Inc.
Signet Laboratories, Inc. is a pioneering evidence-based medicine (EviMed)
company that is committed to developing and commercializing predictive
diagnostics and preventive drugs and therapies for critical disease states.
Evidence-based medicine is the treatment of diseases prior to their full
manifestation, with the goal of reducing their occurrence and preventing
disease progression by early identification of patients with increased risk
factors.
Drawing on long experience in developing diagnostic assays and antibodies
for disease detection and treatment, Signet's mission is to create novel
diagnostics and drugs for patients at risk for cancer, sepsis and renal
failure (SARF), neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer's, Parkinson's
and Huntington's, and prion diseases such as "Mad Cow" and vCJD.
In addition to diagnostics, drugs and therapies, Signet offers a complete
product line of over 400 manufactured antibodies, ELISA kits, detection
products and accessories in an FDA registered facility. Signet products are
