One Click Searching(TM) Delivers Full Text From ProQuest and Other Library
e-Resources
ANN ARBOR, Mich., Dec. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- ProQuest Information and
Learning is launching a revolutionary change to its signature search
platform. Starting now, libraries with a database on the ProQuest(R)
platform can use it for access to full text of the electronic content in
its collection, whether it's from ProQuest or another content provider. The
innovation, called One Click searching(TM), eliminates one of the most
common frustrations of serious researchers by building a direct path
between search results and full text.
"Libraries are dealing with a patron base that has diminishing patience
for search techniques. They want predictable, seamless, and dependable
access to full text in their holdings, wherever it may be," said David
"Skip" Prichard, president of ProQuest Information and Learning. "One Click
provides exactly that. It allows the library to thrive in a dynamic
research environment by matching its users' expectations."
While the technology behind One Click is sophisticated, its appearance
to searchers is remarkably simple. Users enter search terms in any database
on the ProQuest platform and the results screen will include links to full
text from the library's e-collection. To connect to the full text, users
simply click once on the full-text button.
Until One Click, linking from research databases across multiple
publishers involved unpredictability and dead-end links in pursuing article
full text, frustrating users and reducing library credibility among one of
its most important patron groups -- serious researchers. One Click is a
technology solution that considers each library's holdings, delivering
links that are accurate, consistent, and automatic.
"This is the next generation in search technology," said Prichard. "One
Click resets the bar by opening content through its search interface, no
matter who it comes from. It's what libraries want and what their users
want, and now they have it."
One Click is available now to libraries with a database on the ProQuest
platform. Some libraries may need to activate the service. For information
on the simple activation process, contact ProQuest at 1-800-521-0600.
