NEW YORK, Dec. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- What's better than rocking out on New
Year's Eve with your family and friends in the comfort of your own home and
some Gorillaz? MTV Networks' MHD: Music High-Definition today announced
that the channel will celebrate the New Year with the exclusive premiere of
"Gorillaz: Live in Harlem," shot at Harlem's legendary Apollo Theater in
high-definition. The concert will premiere on Sunday, December 31st at 9pm
ET/PT and re-air at midnight.
"More and more viewers are turning to high-definition television for a
full entertainment experience and music is one of things they want to watch
most," said Tom Calderone, Executive Vice President and General Manager of
VH1 who also oversees MHD. "We are committed to growing this universe with
quality content that satisfies our audiences' appetite for high-definition
programming."
The first virtual hip-hop group, Gorillaz burst onto the music scene in
2001 with the debut on their first self-titled album and popular "Clint
Eastwood" single. The group has achieved massive worldwide success with
platinum level domestic sales. "Gorillaz: Live in Harlem" showcases some of
the group's biggest hits, including "Dirty Harry," "Feel Good Inc," "El
Manana," and "Demon Days," among others. The group's "Feel Good Inc." was
also the first high-definition music video to ever play on MHD.
"New Year's Eve represents the culmination of a full month of weekly
high-definition premieres on MHD," said Eric Sherman, Senior Vice President
and General Manager for MHD, VH1 Classic and VH1 Digital Television.
"Viewers can look forward to a growing high-def line-up in 2007 across
every musical genre, including new concerts, specials and continued
simulcasts of tentpole events from MTV, VH1 and CMT."
Launched in January 2006, MHD features high-definition performances,
music videos, interviews, tentpole events, music festivals, concert series,
special concerts, and other music related elements. In addition, MHD has
begun simulcasting tentpole events from MTV, VH1, and CMT, including this
year's VH1 Rock Honors, VH1 Hip Hop Honors Awards, MTV's Video Music
Awards, and CMT Giants: Reba McIntyre. More are planned for the future.
MHD is already in more than half of the U.S. homes that have
high-definition capability and is distributed through deals with Cox Cable,
Charter, Comcast, Insight, Verizon FiOS and, most recently, Time Warner.
