Order Completed in Twenty-Two Months
SACRAMENTO, Calif., Dec. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Siemens Transportation
Systems, Inc. (STS) announced today the final shipment of a ten-vehicle light
rail order for the Utah Transit Authority (UTA). The tenth vehicle of the
order was shipped to Salt Lake City on December 14, twenty-two months after
the order was received.
"We are extremely pleased to have been able to deliver this entire order
to our customer in such a short time period," stated Oliver O. Hauck,
president and chief executive officer of STS. "We were able to ensure a quick
turnaround for these vehicles without compromising the quality necessary to
carry Salt Lake's 20,000 daily light rail commuters, the many passengers
expected during the upcoming 2002 Winter Olympic Games and future riders."
The 10 new SD160 vehicles complement 23 vehicles currently in revenue
service for UTA. The first of this latest order arrived on July 19, 2001.
Each SD160 can carry 185 passengers at speeds up to 65 miles per hour. The
UTA light rail system opened in Dec. of 1999. A system extension servicing
the University of Utah stadium -- site of the opening and closing ceremonies
of the 2002 Winter Olympic Games -- opened on Dec. 15, 2001.
