PG Energy: First Day of Winter Energy Saving Tips

WILKES-BARRE, Pa., Dec. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- PG Energy and its employees
want to share winter heating tips with customers and the people of northeast
and central Pennsylvania, on this the shortest day of the year -- the first
day of winter.
Andrew Sholtis, Manager of Customer Service, suggests, "Have your heating
system cleaned and adjusted by a qualified heating contractor or PG Energy at
least once a year to insure it is running efficiently on even the coldest
winter nights. He also advises to only use supplemental heating equipment
that is approved by Underwriters Laboratory (UL), the American Gas Association
(AGA), Canadian Gas Association (CGA), or any other nationally known testing
laboratory. Always follow the manufacturer's recommendations regarding
operation and ventilation."
Gene Crossin, Manager, Marketing Services, advises homeowners to keep your
home warm and heating bills low. "Open draperies and window shades during the
day to allow sunlight to enter your home and reverse this procedure at night
for heat retention. Set the thermostat control setting for your heating
system no higher than 68 degrees Fahrenheit during the heating season."
According to Dale Buchanan, Safety/Environmental Engineer, "Prevention is
better than treatment. Staying warm and dry is the key to prevention." She
suggests, "Dress in layers. You can always open or remove clothing on sunnier
days or on warmer afternoons. Wear insulated boots and keep your hands dry by
changing gloves when they get wet."
As an energy company, the employees of PG Energy are working to keep
customers homes warm, comfortable and ready to handle Old Man Winter.
