    MIAMI, Dec. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Burger King Corporation today announced the
appointment of Dr. Joanne V. Lichten, Ph.D, RD to Chief Nutritionist. This new
position fills a critical role for Burger King Corporation that recognizes the
importance of nutritional information and choices to the 7.9 million Guests
around the world who visit BURGER KING(R) restaurants each day. In her new
role, Dr. Lichten will be responsible for bringing a consumer-driven,
nutritional sensibility to the current BURGER KING menu, as well as future
product innovations. Dr. Lichten will report to Glad Markunas, senior vice
president, consumer insights and strategic branding.

    In addition to overseeing the nutritional profile of every BURGER KING
product, Dr. Lichten will be the nutritional voice of the BURGER KING brand,
fulfilling the Company's Vision of " ... Serving the Best Burgers and a
Variety of Other Great-Tasting, Healthy Foods Cooked Over an Open Fire."  She
will bring clarity, accuracy and nutritional guidance to the research and
development stages of BURGER KING products while offering consumers dietary
options for balanced lifestyles, personal responsibility and choice.

    Dr. Lichten comes to Burger King Corporation with more than two decades of
nutrition training. Most recently, she served as President of Nutrifit
Consulting, a Houston-based group that provides nutrition and wellness
seminars for large companies and associations in the technology, hospitality,
food, and professional services industries. She also conducted seminars as a
trainer for CareerTrack Seminars and is the author of three nutrition books
including "Dining Lean," "How to Stay Healthy & Fit on the Road" and "Dr. Jo's
No Big Deal Diet."
    Dr. Lichten also developed the four-year undergraduate program in
Dietetics for Pan American University, which is now the University of
Texas/Pan American in Edinburg, Texas. A registered dietitian, she has a
doctorate in adult education from Texas A&M University, a Master's degree in
Human Nutrition from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and a Bachelor's degree in
Foods, Nutrition and Institutional Management from the State University of New
York at Plattsburgh. Dr. Lichten has relocated to Miami with her husband Lorin
and daughter Alexandra.
