The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund Is Awarded Up To $17 Million From The Michael & Susan Dell Foundation

Grants to Support Dependent Children of U.S. and U.K. Military Personnel
Killed During Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom

NEW YORK, Dec. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund today
announced that it received a grant of up to $17 million from the Michael &
Susan Dell Foundation. The grant will be used to support the dependent
children of the U.S. and U.K. military personnel who have lost their lives in
Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
To date, more than 1,000 children have suffered the loss of a parent in
Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund
(IFHF) has been distributing checks for $5,000 to each dependent child of
military personnel killed in current military operations in Afghanistan and
Iraq.
The new grant from the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation (MSDF) will
compensate the IFHF for previous payments and provide the funds necessary to
support payments to additional children for the next four years.
"There is no way to ever replace what these children have lost," said
Susan Dell, co-founder of the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation. "However, we
can help provide them with the support that they need -- and deserve -- to
move forward. We hope that our grant to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund will
honor their parents' memories and foster future success in these children."
The Michael & Susan Dell Foundation will make its first annual payment of
nearly $5 million in December. Additional quarterly payments will be made by
the Foundation over the course of four years, making the total estimated value
of the grant approximately $17 million. The grant, known as the Children of
Fallen Heroes grant, exemplifies the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation's
continued focus on positively impacting the lives of children.
"The Michael & Susan Dell Foundation's donation is extremely generous and
essential for expenses these children may face in the next several years,"
said Bill White, president of the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. "We are
grateful for their donation -- one of the largest grants any military related
charity as ever received. Our efforts to assist military families that have
lost a loved one in defense of our country are entirely dependent on
individual and private contributions such as this one. The Michael & Susan
Dell Foundation's gift serves as an inspiration for others to contribute."
