Richmond Federal Reserve Bank Names Branch Directors

                          Branch Chairmen Announced

    RICHMOND, Va., Dec. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The boards of directors of the
Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond's Baltimore and Charlotte offices elected the
following chairmen for 2005:

     Michael A. Almond -- President and CEO, Charlotte Regional Partnership,
     Charlotte, N.C. -- was re-elected chairman of the Bank's Charlotte
     Office. Mr. Almond has served as a director since January 2000.

     William C. Handorf -- Professor of Finance, School of Business and Public
     Management, George Washington University, Washington, D.C. -- was elected
     chairman of the Bank's Baltimore Office. Mr. Handorf has served as a
     director since 2001.

                         Branch Director Appointments

    The board of directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond made the
following appointments to the boards of directors of the Bank's Baltimore and
Charlotte Offices for three-year terms beginning Jan. 1, 2005:

     Donald P. Hutchinson -- President and CEO, SunTrust Bank, Maryland,
     Baltimore, Md. -- was reappointed as a director of the Baltimore Office.
     His first term began in October 2002.

     Barry L. Slider -- President, CEO and Vice Chairman, First South Bancorp,
     Inc., First South Bank, Spartanburg, S.C. -- was appointed as a director
     of the Charlotte Office.

    The boards of directors of the Baltimore and Charlotte offices of the
Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond have seven members.  A majority of each
office's directors are appointed by the board of directors of the Richmond
Reserve Bank and the remainder by the Board of Governors of the Federal
Reserve System.  The chairmen of the boards of the Baltimore and Charlotte
offices are selected for one-year terms from among those directors appointed
by the Board of Governors.

    The Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond is one of 12 District Reserve Banks
that together with the Board of Governors in Washington, D.C., make up the
Federal Reserve System.  The Richmond Fed serves the Fifth Federal Reserve
District, which encompasses the District of Columbia, Maryland, North
Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and most of West Virginia.
