Jinshan District Holds Meeting in Macau to Showcase Business Environment

    SHANGHAI, China, Dec. 27 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- The Shanghai Jinshan
District Government recently co-hosted, with the Macau Trade and Investment
Promotion Institute (MTIPI), a meeting to showcase Jinshan's business
environment.  Mr. Li Yuyi, the district governor; Ms. Li Huagui, Vice
president of the Jinshan District Government; Chen Jinghong, MTIPI deputy
chairman; and Xu Shiyuan, council president of the Macau Chamber of Commerce
were all present at the meeting, which was held at the Hotel Ritz Macau.
    Mr. Li Yuyi said, ''Jinshan is currently home to nationally renowned
chemical enterprise SINOPEC Shanghai Petrochemical Co., Ltd. and the
internationally renowned Shanghai Chemical Industry Zone.  Now Jinshan is
speeding up the construction of Jinshan New Urban Area, Modern Agricultural
Garden and Jinshan Industrial Zone.  We welcome investors, especially the
Macau industrial and commercial personages to invest and develop in Jinshan.''
    The Jinshan District Government is located in Jinshan New Urban Area,
which is built around the core administrative office zone that covers an area
of one square kilometer.  Under the guidance of the concept of ''nature-
government-people," the New Urban District endeavors to build a new
government image characterized by solemnity, credibility and modernization.
    Jinshan Industrial Zone, based on learning from the experiences of other
successful zones, invited the world famous Singaporean enterprise Jurong
Consulting Co., Ltd. to be responsible for overall planning.  The total
planned area will be 58 square kilometres, where 22.8 square kilometers will
be developed in phase I, being the most significant component of the Jinshan
district.
    The Modern Agricultural Garden has a planned area of 51 square kilometers,
which has, according to the layout of ''one center, five zones and one ring,''
introduced projects like planting Israeli peaches on 150 mu (10 hectares)
facilities, a 150 mu (10 hectares) Gerbera Jamesonii demonstration base and a
5,000 capacity cow milking facility.
    In recent years, Jinshan district has reinforced the efforts of business
invitation.  Its farmers' income per capita, GDP, total financial revenues,
gross industrial output value have grown averagely at a speed of more than 10%,
20%, 30% and 40%, respectively.  A group of key backbone enterprises developed
rapidly and well-known companies and brands have emerged, such as Shanghai
Maple Automobile, Shanghai Ganxiang Automobile Mirror and Shikumen Shanghai
Laojiu.  As a result, Jinshan district has achieved new social and economic
development.

    Jinshan, one of the 19 districts (counties) of Shanghai, is located in the
southwest of the city, north of the Hangzhou Bay and west of Zhejiang Province.
It is situated at the hub of the economic region linking Shanghai, Hangzhou
and Ningbo, and is inside the geographic ring of the Yangtze River Delta that
is only a two hours drive away.
    Jinshan District has a total land area of 586 square kilometers (about 226
square miles), equivalent to that of Singapore, and a population of 550,000.
