- Heinz Takes Organics into the Mainstream -
- Tomato Ketchup Goes Green After All -
- Baked Beans and Spaghetti Add to the Choice -
25 August 2000 -- Heinz has broadened its choice with the launch of
organic Tomato Ketchup, Baked Beans and Spaghetti.
Organic versions of the three famous, instantly recognisable, icon brands
will be on the UK shelves from the start of October.
Organic Tomato Ketchup, Organic Baked Beans and Organic Spaghetti all
provide the familiar taste delivery that consumers expect from Heinz.
Consumers can select the option that best suits their individual needs.
Managing Director, Heinz European Grocery, Nigel Clare said: "Heinz is
founded upon the right taste -- and the right choice. Consumers' changing
tastes, lifestyles and needs provide new opportunities to broaden the choice
available, which is why we want to offer a more complete range of options."
Heinz is set to change the dynamics of the UK organics market, which is
already worth 570 million British pounds sterling (ACNielsen). At present,
70% of all sales currently stem from only 10% of organic consumers.
With 40-50% year on year growth forecast for each of the next five years,
calculations from ACNielsen project a market value of 2 billion pounds by
2003.
Clare said: "The initial success of organics is already well known. But
these are still very early days for the total market, and 'organics' itself is
not a recognised brand. The market needs a brand of Heinz's authority,
stature and leverage to take it forward. Heinz will take organics into new
territory -- we're moving it into the mainstream arena for the first time."
