IRVING, Texas, Dec. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE: XOM)
today announced that its Angola affiliate, Esso Exploration Angola (Block 17)
Limited, has participated in a deepwater discovery, Camelia 1 on Block 17,
offshore Angola.
The Camelia 1 discovery well was drilled in 4,250 feet (1,296 meters) of
water. The well flowed at a test rate of 9,000 barrels per day.
Prior Block 17 discoveries are Girassol (1996), Dalia (1997), Rosa (1998),
Lirio (1998), Tulipa (1999), Orquidea (1999), and Cravo (1999). All of the
discoveries are located offshore approximately 125 miles (200 kilometers)
northwest of Luanda.
Including Block 17, ExxonMobil affiliates have to date participated in 15
key announced deepwater discoveries offshore West Africa. Block 17 represents
a world-class development opportunity with recoverable reserves potential in
excess of 3.5 billion oil equivalent barrels.
Sonangol, the Angolan national oil company, is the concessionaire of the
block and Esso has at 20 percent interest. The other Block 17 interest owners
are Elf Exploration Angola -- operator (35 percent), BP Exploration Angola
Ltd. (16.67 percent), Den Norske Stats Oljeselskap a.s. (13.33 percent), Norsk
Hydro ASA (10 percent) and Total Fina, Fina Exploration MB, B.V. (5 percent).
