WEST JORDAN, Utah, Dec. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- R-Cubed Composites
Incorporated, of West Jordan, Utah, a subsidiary of Swedish based Perstorp
Corporation, today announced the formation of a Joint Venture Corporation with
Starmet Comcast Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Starmet Corporation
(Nasdaq: STMT) of Concord, Massachusetts and Advanced Products Laboratories,
of Fremont, California. The Corporation, TrioStar, was established to match
specialized technical and manufacturing capabilities to support the growing
demand for assembly line mass production of hybrid, composite and metallic
structures used in Low Earth-orbiting satellites needed for global
communication networks.
There continues to be a steady surge for low cost, high volume, Low Earth-
satellite systems. These systems represent satellite technology requiring
earth orbits approximately 50 times closer than traditional communication
satellite systems. Low Earth orbit systems will eliminate the signal delays
normally encountered with traditional satellite communication. To satisfy
global coverage, several hundred of these satellites must be positioned at one
time, thus, a rapid increase in manufacturing demand. To meet demand,
customers have looked to suppliers that can offer cost effective solutions to
meet these design and manufacturing challenges. TrioStar now offers customers
with fully fabricated sub assemblies that utilize demonstrated technologies
for the lightest weight and highest stiffness structure at an affordable
price. These structures would represent hybrid systems combining advanced
metallic and non-metallic technologies.
Each of the partners brings with them unique manufacturing and fabrication
capabilities that when combined, offer customers solutions to these demanding
requirements. R-Cubed Composites, is an industry leader in fabrication of
complex non-metallic composite structures supporting space, defense, medical
and commercial applications. Starmet Comcast Corporation provides extensive
metallic manufacturing expertise. The bulk of the technology surrounds
Starmet's patented family of Beryllium-Aluminum (BeralcastAE) alloys. These
alloys are 22% lighter and 300% greater stiffness than conventional aluminum
alloys and are used in space, defense and commercial applications. Advanced
Products Laboratories is a specialty fabricator of complex metallic systems
utilizing pure beryllium, beryllium aluminum alloys and conventional materials
to the aerospace industry.
The Corporate headquarters for TrioStar is in West Jordan, Utah. Hardware
manufacturing would be performed at Starmet Comcast's facilities in
Massachusetts and Advanced Products Laboratories facilities in California.
Program Management, non-metallic composite fabrication, final assembly and
system integration would be at the joint TrioStar/R-Cubed facilities in West
Jordan, Utah.
