RENO, Nev., Feb. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Reno Air, Inc.
(Nasdaq: RENO; PCX: RNO) announced today that its Board of Directors elected
Joseph R. O'Gorman, a former senior executive of United Airlines, as its
Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer.
Reno Air's former Chairman, Lee M. Hydeman, will assume the position of
Chairman of the Board's Executive Committee, which is comprised entirely of
outside directors. Reno Air's former President and Chief Executive Officer
Robert Reding, announced his resignation.
"Reno Air is fortunate to attract an executive of Joe O'Gorman's
experience and proven leadership," said Mr. Hydeman. "We expect Joe to work
with us in guiding the company to a profitable and successful future," he
added. Mr. Hydeman also said that the Board had expressed its appreciation to
Bob Reding for his dedication and service in bringing Reno Air through the
transition from a start-up company to an airline with a significant market
presence in the West. "When Bob Reding became President and CEO in October
1994, Reno Air was struggling for its survival. Bob played a key role in
bringing the company through a difficult transition period. However, in light
of recent developments in the airline industry, including more aggressive
competition from the largest airlines, the Board concluded that Reno Air would
benefit from a change in leadership in helping us to move forward," Mr.
Hydeman added.
Mr. O'Gorman, who recently retired as an Executive Vice President of
United Airlines and who brings over 30 years of airline experience to Reno
Air, will assume his duties as Chairman, President and CEO immediately. In
the course of his career, Mr. O'Gorman has served as President and CEO of both
Aloha Airlines in Hawaii and Denver-based Frontier Airlines. In addition, Mr.
O'Gorman held senior operating positions at United Airlines, USAirways and Air
California.
Reno Air currently serves 22 cities with a fleet of 30 MD-80 and MD-90
series jets that have an average age of less than seven years, one of the
youngest all-jet fleets in the industry. Reno Air offers everyday low fares,
advance seat assignments, domestic and international frequent flyer programs,
a spacious first class cabin, "EZtrip" ticketless travel and full
participation in all major computer reservation systems.
