MILWAUKEE, Feb. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- TCF National Bank Wisconsin, a
subsidiary of TCF Financial Corporation (TCF) (NYSE: TCB), and American Stores
Company (NYSE: ASC), parent of Jewel-Osco, jointly announced an agreement to
include TCF bank branches in seven (7) Jewel-Osco stores to be opened in the
greater Milwaukee area during 1998.  In addition, TCF will operate 15
automated teller machines (ATMs) in the free-standing Osco Drug stores in the
market.  The agreement also solidifies the alliance for future locations in
the Milwaukee, Racine and Kenosha trading areas, beyond 1998.
    Included are two (2) existing TCF branches in the West Allis and Layton
Avenue Cub Foods Stores, in addition to the Cub Foods at 4061 North 54th
Street.  All three acquisitions were previously announced by Jewel-Osco.  TCF
National Bank Wisconsin will operate branches in four (4) additional Jewel
sites in development for 1998.
