CONCORD, Mass., Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Starmet Corporation (Nasdaq: STMT)
(formerly Nuclear Metals, Inc.,) a Concord, Massachusetts manufacturer of
advanced technology metallurgical products, today announced that William J.
Shea has accepted election to its Board of Directors. Starmet is pleased to
have a person with Mr. Shea's extensive experience and financial background
joining the Board and believes that his experience will be invaluable to the
Company going forward.
William J. Shea (50) is former Vice Chairman, Chief Financial Officer and
Treasurer of BankBoston, a superregional bank holding company with
$62.7 billion in assets as of December 31, 1997 and some 23,000 employees
worldwide. A member of the executive management, Mr. Shea oversaw all
operations related to risk management, finance, treasury operations, corporate
administrative services, investor relations, asset-liability management and
National Consumer Franchises. While at BankBoston, Mr. Shea had responsibility
for International Operations, Capital Markets and Private Banking activities.
Prior to joining BankBoston in December, 1992, Mr. Shea spent 19 years
with Coopers & Lybrand where he was a Senior Partner and a member of Firm
Council, the partnership's governing body. As Vice Chairman, Mr. Shea was
responsible for National Industry Programs, Middle Market Clients and
Marketing. He was also responsible for overseeing the client services to the
largest 200 clients of the firm. During his career at Coopers he worked in
financial services and high technology companies. He has extensive knowledge
in business turnarounds and Mergers & Acquisitions.
Mr. Shea is currently Chairman of the Board of Centennial Technologies,
Inc., of Wilmington, MA, a maker of PCMCIA cards. He also serves on the
Finance Committee of Children's Hospital, the Board of Trustees of
Northeastern University, the Board and Executive Committee of the Boston Stock
Exchange, and the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce Board and Executive
Committee. He also serves as a Director of View Tech, Inc., of Camarillo, CA
and Miros, Inc., of Newton, MA.
In addition, Mr. Shea is a member of the Massachusetts Society of CPA's,
American Institute of CPA's, the Board of Directors of the Financial
Executives Institute, and the Bankers Roundtable.
