PG Energy Files for a Decrease in Its Gas Cost Rate

    WILKES-BARRE, Pa., Feb. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- PG Energy today filed a gas
cost rate adjustment with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PPUC).
This filing which becomes effective March 1, 1998 will reduce the current gas
cost rate by $0.11 per thousand cubic feet (MCF). This reduction, combined
with the December 1, 1997 reduction of $0.47, will decrease the annual bill of
an average residential heating customer by $84.00.
PG Energy purchases natural gas from gas producers and suppliers across
the United States and in Canada. Prices in the natural gas industry are quite
seasonal and dependent on numerous factors such as weather conditions, the
price of other fuels, temperature and demand. In competing with the national
demand for natural gas, PG Energy exercises prudent gas cost management and
purchasing practices to provide our customers with an adequate supply of gas
at the least possible cost, based on projected seasonal loads.
PG Energy and its subsidiary, Honesdale Gas Company, are regulated
subsidiaries of Pennsylvania Enterprises, Inc. (PEI) (NYSE: PNT) and they
provide natural gas to approximately 150,000 customers in thirteen counties in
northeastern and central Pennsylvania.
