FORT WORTH, Texas, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Snyder Oil Corporation ("SOCO")
(NYSE: SNY) today announced the hiring of Jay H. Smith as Senior Vice
President -- Southern Region. Mr. Smith's responsibilities will include both
the Offshore Division and the North Louisiana Division.
    Mr. Smith comes to Snyder with 30 years experience in the exploration and
production business. Most recently he was Executive Vice President, Sonat
Exploration Company, where he had responsibility for Sonat's Technology and
Resources organization.  He also managed the Gulf Coast, South and West Texas
Business Units while with Sonat.  He earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering
from Syracuse University and attended the Management Development Program at
Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration.
