Linser Named to Lead Ameri-Forge

DALLAS, Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Global Industrial Technologies, Inc.
(NYSE: GIX) announced today that Herbert Linser has been appointed President
of its wholly owned subsidiary, Ameri-Forge Corporation, which manufactures
flange products and undercarriages for track mounted equipment.
Mr. Linser joined the company in April, 1997, to establish an
undercarriage business at Ameri-Forge, having previously served as Managing
Director of Intertractor of Gevelsberg, Germany, which is one of the world's
leading producers of undercarriage components. Mr. Linser was responsible for
building Intertractor's undercarriage business from $20 million in revenues in
1965 to $200 million at his departure in 1991.
Mr. Rock Dawson will continue as President of the Flange Division,
devoting his full attention to implementing the company's plans to increase
the capacity of its forging and machining operations.
"The undercarriage aftermarket in the U.S. alone is approximately
$500 million in size, and we believe our shareholders will benefit from our
efforts to establish ourselves as the only independent domestic manufacturer
serving that market," said J. L. Jackson, President and Chief Executive
Officer of Global Industrial Technologies. "In expanding Mr. Linser's role,
we believe he will be able to make better use of his tremendous experience and
contacts to accelerate Ameri-Forge's progress and its transformation into a
company with strong market positions in two attractive lines of business.
Mr. Linser is exceptionally qualified to consolidate flange operations with
development of undercarriage. His special knowledge of markets, as well as
plant organization and procedures, and ability to identify top level talent on
a global basis is unique. We are also excited to provide Mr. Dawson the
opportunity to focus exclusively on the growth of our flange business."
Global Industrial Technologies is a major manufacturer of technologically
advanced industrial products supporting high-growth markets worldwide.
