James River and A.D. Tech Sign Microwave Packaging Patent Licensing Agreements
RICHMOND, Va., Aug. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- James River Corporation's (NYSE: JR)
Packaging Business and Advanced Deposition Technologies, Inc.
(Nasdaq: ADTDC), announced today the signing of a licensing and supply
agreement relating to certain microwave packaging patents.
As a result of this agreement, James River purchased the North American
rights to several issued patents and pending applications for the metallized
film based "fuse susceptor" technology, which was developed by A.D. TECH to
provide control of heating levels. A.D. TECH acquired a license to use
twenty-four James River patents concerning microwave packaging and will also
supply a portion of James River's metallized film requirement.
Glenn J. Walters, president and chief executive officer of A.D. TECH,
Taunton, Massachusetts, stated, "This reciprocal licensing agreement and James
River's acquisition of three of our North American patents is an exciting
development for A.D. TECH and the industry. Not only does it confirm the
technological leadership we provide to microwave food markets, but now, by
becoming a James River licensee, our ability to find innovative approaches to
serve our customers is enhanced." Mr. Walters continued, "Combining our fuse
patents with James River's existing patent offerings means that we can now
work closely with James River's other licensees to provide them with
proprietary patterned metallized films. This is one of several intellectual
property transactions which will contribute to revenue growth and increased
profitability."
"As interest in A.D. TECH's fuse susceptor technology has grown over the
past year, we are pleased to have acquired the rights to these patents and
look forward helping to broaden their use," commented Timothy H. Bohrer, vice
president of technology for James River's packaging business located in
Milford, Ohio. Mr. Bohrer continued, "We have successfully administered a
licensing program that allows converters in the United States and Canada to
practice the basic metallized film susceptor patents, as well as a wide
variety of specific package configuration patents. We will be offering
existing licensees the opportunity to upgrade their licenses to include the
fuse susceptor technology, and will modify our offering for new licensees to
provide the option to include this technology. This addition strengthens the
proven value of our licensing package, and will increase the ability of our
licensees to supply a wide range of susceptor packages to food packagers."
A.D. TECH (Nasdaq: ADTDC), located in Taunton, Mass., develops and
manufacturers high-resolution, patterned, vacuum metallized coatings for a
variety of energy management applications -- including electronics,
retroreflective films, authentication security holograms, electronic article
surveillance tags, electrostatic discharge materials, and microwave packaging
films using the company's proprietary metallization process for selectively
printing metal coatings onto thin film substrates.
