ATLANTA, Aug. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Preferred Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: PFNT)
(PNI), one of the largest carrier's carriers of exclusively wholesale one-way
paging network services, today announced that it has completed construction
and begun operating its Midwest Technical Control Center (TCC) located in
Wheeling, Illinois. The new TCC, the fourth of 10 TCCs that PNI plans to
build throughout the U.S., will provide service to Illinois, Wisconsin,
Indiana, Kansas, Missouri and Minnesota.
"Our Midwest TCC serves one of the largest wireless markets in the U.S.
and gives us access to a large potential customer base for paging airtime,"
said Eugene H. Kreeft, executive vice president of engineering. "Our four
centers are strategically located and currently serve the Midwest, East Coast
and Southeast. Construction has begun on a TCC in Detroit, and network sites
in Seattle, Denver and San Francisco are being selected. We are making
significant strides toward the completion of our nationwide paging network."
PNI's regional TCCs allow the Company to centrally control multiple local
paging networks. Primarily operating on the 157-740 MHz frequency, the TCCs
are designed using customized software that facilitates system efficiency and
effectiveness.
PNI's Atlanta-based TCC serves as the Southeast control point for paging
networks in Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, North Carolina and South Carolina.
It also functions as PNI's central monitoring station for all TCCs. A Remote
Point of Presence (R-POP) in Orlando serves the Florida networks. PNI's Mid-
Atlantic TCC, located in Laurel, Maryland, manages paging networks in southern
New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C.
The third TCC, in Poughkeepsie, New York, provides service in Boston, New York
City, upper New Jersey, Rhode Island, south New Hampshire and will continue to
expand to southern Maine, Connecticut, and upstate New York.
PNI is a wholesaler provider of high-quality, reliable one-way paging
network services. As a carrier's carrier, PNI markets its networks to
traditional resellers of paging services and to paging carriers and resellers
that own their own switching terminals which are connected to PNI's switching
centers. PNI's strategy is complemented by its centralized network
architecture and use of a low-cost, high-power paging frequency for which it
is licensed or has licenses pending nationwide.
