Olympic Gold Medalist Angel Martino And The Georgia Academy For The Blind To Make First Official Call As The Only Wireless School Of Its Kind In The Nation

WHAT: Come witness the first official call of the only wireless school for
the blind in the United States. Teachers and students will demonstrate the
new wireless applications that include accessing the Internet! The Georgia
Academy for the Blind is the first wireless school of its kind participating
in ClassLink -- a wireless industry initiative designed to help break down the
classroom walls via wireless communications. Join teachers as they
demonstrate how to use the new technology and share how they expect it to
enhance education. Join students and parents as they share their experiences
with ClassLink thus far.

Olympic Gold Medalist Angel Martino, U.S. Representative Saxby Chambliss
(R Ga-8), Mayor Jim Marshall, state School Board officials, and area business
leaders are special guest participants.

    WHEN: Monday, September 16, 1996, 10 a.m.

WHERE: The Georgia Academy for the Blind Auditorium,
            2895 Vineville Avenue, Macon, Georgia

HOW: Cellular One of Macon, owned by Palmer Wireless, Inc., and the CTIA
Foundation, recently donated 75 cellular telephones with accessories, free
airtime for the 1996-97 school year, and cellular voice mail boxes (called the
Homework Hotline) for every teacher and support staff member. Teachers are
able to call parents throughout the entire state of Georgia at no cost to the
school. In addition, Cellular One and the CTIA Foundation have donated
wireless equipment to connect to the Internet. MindSpring, a leading Internet
service provider, is donating Internet access for eight computers located
throughout the school.

WHY: Wireless technology will allow teachers and students to take the
learning process beyond traditional classroom walls. Teachers will now have
an instant communication link for emergencies and every day problems. Prior
to ClassLink the 50 teaches and paraprofessionals had to wait in line to use
four phone lines. ClassLink is designed to improve education in schools by
saving teachers time, enhancing communication between parents and teachers,
providing a tool to enhance safety and enabling students to access the
internet via wireless technology.

NOTE: This will be a great photo and video opportunity. Special
classroom demonstrations will be set up as well!
