PITTSBURGH, March 11 /PRNewswire/ -- At their initial meetings recently,
Chairpersons were named for Public Participation Panels (PPPs) gathering
information on transportation needs in Allegheny and Beaver counties. They
are:
-- Allegheny South and East/City of Pittsburgh: Richard Stanizzo,
Business Manager, Pittsburgh Building Trades Council; Vice
Chairwoman: Phyllis Armstrong, League of Women Voters of Greater
Pittsburgh
-- Allegheny North and West/City of Pittsburgh: David Donahoe, Executive
Director of the Allegheny Regional Asset District
-- Beaver County: Louis Boykins, Beaver County representative to the
Southwestern Pennsylvania Regional Development Commission.
The PPPs are scheduled to meet twice more, including public meetings in
late March. The PPP process was developed by the Southwestern Pennsylvania
Regional Planning Commission (SPRPC) and Development Council (The Council),
and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), with the
endorsement of the State Transportation Commission (STC). Their goal is to
encourage wider public involvement in the development of the state's 1999-2010
Twelve Year Transportation Program and in regional transportation planning and
programming.
Comments from the public meetings will be used to shape the Twelve Year
Transportation Program and the region's four-year, 1999-2002 Transportation
Improvement Program (TIP) and its 2020 Long Range Plan. SPRPC and The Council
are responsible for the TIP and the Long Range Plan. Both of the programs and
the plan currently are being updated.
Representatives from SPRPC and The Council will sit with members of the
State Transportation Commission (STC) to jointly receive information from the
PPP chairpersons or their designees at a hearing in early May.
Details of the public meetings will be distributed next week, but anyone
interested in transportation projects can mark their calendars:
7:00 p.m. March 30: Allegheny County South and East/City of Pittsburgh,
Holiday Inn in Monroeville
1:30 p.m. March 31: Allegheny County North and West/City of Pittsburgh,

7:00 p.m. March 31: Allegheny County North and West/City of Pittsburgh,

Following the public meetings, the PPPs will meet for a third time to

in May.

Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Washington and
Westmoreland counties and the City of Pittsburgh.
